It could have easily become flat and corny, but the story Liu has crafted really developed it nicely. Both Jubilee and X-23 were in difficult positions and they were able to help one another get through it. She made it believable and for that, I commend her. It seemed a little too campy, too obvious, as they both share a similar relationship to Wolveryine. I love X-23 and Jubilee as individuals and really loved the tention between them when they first met. With that said, I commend Marjorie Liu greatly for making their friendship seem somewhat organic, rather than forced and predictable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-70156202523112692272011-07-11T16:57:11.528-04:002011-07-11T16:57:11.528-04:00Glad my reviews could help! It's not so vast that it flies over your head. It uses only a small number of characters and focuses only on one. It helps that said character, X-23, is such an intriguing personality. Now she has someone to compliment her personality in Jubilee. The potential is simply too awesome to describe! So far I can't complain about the series. There aren't a zillion characters roaming about like in the other X-titles to where I get whiplash. I'm really enjoying this storyline and the friendship between Jubilee and Laura. I especially like how Jubilee feels more in character compared to her previous appearances in the other books. Even though she's a vampire she still has that spunk. She and Laura, so far, are a good balance for one another as long as there is no blood and Laura doesn't go into a wild frenzy.rekkanoryonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-34284352976606573322011-07-10T11:12:58.703-04:002011-07-10T11:12:58.703-04:00Thanks for the comment! They aren't so bad that they take away from the story. Everything fits together nicely. It doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to be awesome.

As for the Eiffel Tower, I'm not sure Laura has gotten to the point where she thinks things through. In fact, for much of this series many of her problems stem from not thinking shit through. lol So why should it stop here?

I'm glad Marjorie Liu has made this series so awesome. It's a joy to review each and every time!Jack Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04929572842990203873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-61172848290239088722011-07-09T10:46:42.131-04:002011-07-09T10:46:42.131-04:00I agree the issue had a few missed opportunities, ...I agree the issue had a few missed opportunities, but was overall well above average. You cover the plot problems pretty well; I've also heard a few criticisms of the art, though I think they're overstated. There's only one panel I really had a problem with, where Wolverine has an enormous body but tiny legs. Given it was drawn during the aftermath of a Tsunami, its pretty understandable that there'd be some minor slips. The rest of it was pretty solid - the art (and the lighting in particular) really helps to elevate that final scene beyond a corney "glycerine tears" event into something more subtantial.

Though I'm not sure if jumping off the Eiffel tower is wise for Laura. We saw how much damage she took when the train hit her, and she'd build up at least as much speed vs ground at that height as she did vs the train. She's going to end up with another compound fracture, though she'll probably just slap her legs bones back in their sockets and ask Jubilee if she wants to go again.Herringnoreply@blogger.com
