I admit I don'...Thanks for the insight, Herring! I admit I don't know much about the criminal justice system aside from all the laws involving public intoxication. I think it's amazing enough that Marvel actually took time to scrutinize the legal aspect of young mutants joining the X-men. It would have been easy for them to just gloss over the ramifications so I credit Kieron Gillen for being this detailed. But Teon is clearly someone the courts would have a problem with. Even though he can use his higher functions, it does not seem he can use them effectively. That usually triggers the courts to impose special policies. He clearly didn't act too rationally at first. He's not all that rational now, but I admit that Hope's influence has made him a bit less dangerous. I still find it hard to believe that any court would allow a teenager to do what Teon is doing.

Generation Hope really has lost it's relevance. It doesn't appear to be selling that well either. Seeing as how Namor recently got canceled with similar sales, I think it's only a matter of time before Generation Hope ends. Hpoe is such a brat now. By then I want Bishop to come back and prove to everyone that he was right.

JackJack Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04929572842990203873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-74729989369012467422011-07-09T00:28:37.031-04:002011-07-09T00:28:37.031-04:00Nice review, I enjoyed reading it. :)
I've go...Nice review, I enjoyed reading it. :)

I've got to say I'm somewhat conflicted on Hope Summers. On one hand she did something I've been waiting forever for, call out Professor X on his "Mutants are the next step in evolution", "homosuperior" philosophy. On the other hand, she comes far too close to a Mary Sue of the Wesley Crusher variety (adults suddenly become useless, she asserts herself and is proven right by power of convenient writing) for my taste on far too many occasions.

On the court case, it would depend if Teon is considered an adult or a minor. If he's the latter (and I presume he is since it's a custody hearing), the parents would actually have default custody of him anyway. However even assuming they didn't have that custody, all they'd need to show is that the X-Men's guardianship was unsound. The fact that Teon apparently can use his higher mental functions, but is being allowed not to is tantamount to allowing your kid to play truant all day instead of going to school. They aren't preparing him to survive by himself in the modern world so are irresponsible guardians. He'd be hoisted on his own petard in the inevitable cross examination.

If he's classed as an adult then it would be more complicated. They'd have to show that he can't take care of himself or worse is outright insane, and his demonstration that he can use his brain if he chooses may carry some weight. Of course then every incident between him stowing away on a plane and public urination would get dredged up, and there'd be a rather complelling case that Teon can't act rationally. I can imagine a rather sadistic lawyer politely asking "did you realise at the time that what you did was wrong" to every charge, and him answering cheerfully that he didn't - not realising he's putting a noose around his own neck.Herringnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-51862478265199289162011-07-08T16:49:12.457-04:002011-07-08T16:49:12.457-04:00I'm glad a largely unknown character like Evan...I'm glad a largely unknown character like Evangeline gets a shot, but I think she deserves better. Generation Hope just doesn't have the same relevance anymore. It's like that sandbox where only the kids with head lice play. I hope at some point the lights break Hope's hold on them. She's just such an annoying brat. They deserve better!Jack Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04929572842990203873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-20171944861444362932011-07-08T02:23:26.201-04:002011-07-08T02:23:26.201-04:00I enjoyed the aspect of Teon's parents wanting...I enjoyed the aspect of Teon's parents wanting their kid back. Never the less I figured the trial would turn out the way it did. I'm also glad to see some friction going on within the Five Lights even if it hasn't been brought out into the open just yet. Other than that, I'm surprised this series is still going on. What's the point of having it around? There's nothing interesting about Hope and she hasn't done anything remarkable as of late.rekkanoryonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1917870048446264335.post-25189505599581008292011-07-07T13:52:55.360-04:002011-07-07T13:52:55.360-04:00I did catch this issue awhile back and I enjoyed i...I did catch this issue awhile back and I enjoyed it. I liked seeing Evangeline back because I've been wondering her whereabouts for awhile. The writing is still neat with unexpected surprises like Teon speaking eloquently. And it was nice to see Laurie and Kenji finally realizing how messed up following the rip-off messiah through critical reasoning. But now I don't give a f123 about this book, she's useless.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
