Amazing Spider-Man #700 and UN-Amazing Spoilers

I did it once and I pissed a few people off in the process. So I'm doing it again because I'm a drunk and I stop giving a shit after a certain number of shots! I'm going to spoil another landmark issue of Amazing Spider-Man that has Marvel has been billing as the biggest Spider-Man milestone since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's last simultaneous fart together. Amazing Spider-Man #700 isn't just billed as this huge milestone for a comic. It's supposed to set the stage for a big relaunch called Superior Spider-Man. I'm not sure how he's supposed to be superior. Early indications seem to imply that he's meaner, tougher, and more of an overall asshole. Shit, if that's superior, then my high school gym teacher was practically a god. But it's still speculation at this point.

For now, we know that Doctor Octopus swapped minds with Peter Parker. So for a while now Doc Ock has been parading around in Peter's body, playing the part of a hero, and boning all his women. It's basically the ultimate "fuck you" from a villain. Peter, now stuck in Doc Ock's body, is trying to fight back by getting his body back before Doc Ock fucks his reputation, ruins his relationships, or gets him one too many STDs. Amazing Spider-Man #700 is supposed to show how it all ends. Well until now, we could only speculate. Then the fine folks at 4chan leaked images online and since I'm such a generous guy, I'm going to share them here on this blog! First off, a clear warning. If you scroll down further, you will see some very spoilerific images!

I know the image quality is pretty shitty. It's the best I can do. But if it helps, here are a few more images that break down the final pages.

Hint, that's not Doc Ock that's lying dead in the street...not entirely anyways.

This confirms one rumor, namely about Spider-Man being more of an asshole. It's like giving my old gym teacher super-powers. No good can come of it.

Just some casual boasting to end it all. It's the kind of boasting that is not the mark of a hero or anyone who preaches shit like power and responsibility, but I guess Marvel just thinks that shit isn't cool.

So there you have it. This is the new Superior Spider-Man. I'm not going to go too deep into my opinions while I'm this drunk, but I will make one important note to those hardcore Spider-Man fans that I know will be outraged. This is EXACTLY what Marvel wants. They figured out back during One More Day, Ultimatum, Avengers vs. X-men, Disassembled, and the Clone Saga that no matter how outraged fans get, they still buy their shit. I'm not sure they understand it. I don't think they give three tenths of a shit anyways. But for some reason, outraged fans still buy their shit. Marvel doesn't fear pissing off their fans anymore. They only fear their fans getting apathetic. That's the biggest weapon against comics. Apathy. The day fans become apathetic is the day Marvel knows they made a huge mistake. And because of outrage, this book will sell and they won't care how pissed off the people buying it are. So from one fanboy to many others, we've no one to blame but ourselves for this shit. It's not Marvel. It's us. We're terrible. I'm an adult. I know how to deal with it. And when I can't, I drink. It's a perfect solution! Nuff said.

  2. Thank you for sharing this (and the numerous spoiler warnings). I haven't followed Dan Slott's run,but I was going to pick up 700 because I love Spidey... But now? No. I'm sure there's more to the story, but this sequence is enough to turn me off completely. This is awful. Thanks for saving me a couple bucks.

  4. This is HILARIOUS!!!!!! If I was any sort of Spider-Man reader I would be SUPER-pissed, but since I'm not, this is really really funny...and yet sad.

The last hero standing against the tide that's turned every other Marvel star into a cynical, immoral jackass has fallen.

    What a dark day.

    1. Thanks for the comment. I mean seriously, when did the only idea Marvel could come up with to make heroes interesting involve making them assholes?

  5. Well, as my father would say (derisively, of course), "There you have it."

Most of the posters at Bleeding Cool are groaning about how hilariously awful this is. As for me, I won't say too much about ASM #700 in terms of specifics, except to point out the obvious -- that nothing about this premise makes an ounce of sense for either of the characters involved. Specifically, Doctor Octopus has never wanted to be a hero. And he's never shown any indication of it over the course of nearly 700 issues of megalomania and villainy until Dan Slott pulled it out of his ass (although in a later tidbit, from the same guy who released the spoiler, apparently Otto is shocked that Peter forgives him at the end for the body swap/killing him). I didn't think there was a comic writer alive who would make this nonsense up and shamelessly try to sell it to his or her readers.

But then again, never would I have believed just two short years ago that Marvel would effectively get rid of Peter Parker from all of their mainline titles, replacing him with (a) a tiresome 13 year-old, Miles Morales, who just happened to get his spider powers the same exact way as Peter, and also gets handed every bloody thing that Peter himself built (the mantle, costume, web shooters) while having the personality of dry toast, and (b) Doctor Octopus in Peter's body, after effectively stealing his life, namesake, accomplishments, and in a final indignity, his ex-wife.

On the other hand, I suppose readers will have fun guessing whether Doctor Peterpuss decides to kiss Mary Jane or Aunt May at family gatherings (he's locked lips with them both). And yes, I agree with you. The Spider-Man fans will continue reading, if only because they're like crack addicts, each desperate for their next fix. The idea of closing their wallets and rejecting this nonsense would be just too hard.

    1. It's a bad time to be a Spider-Man fan just as a few years ago it was a bad time to be an X-men fan. Marvel is seriously running out of ideas. If all they can think of is making heroes assholes, then they have no right to call themselves the fucking house of ideas. Nuff said!

    2. Miles is in a single comic, in a different universe... You should probably read the comics before complaining.

    3. I actually have read the comics, smart guy. And yes, as far as I am concerned, he's a mediocre replacement. Sorry if it hurts.

What I said was also factually correct, whether you want to admit it or not. Peter has been killed off and replaced in Ultimate, and now in the 616 universe which spans over multiple books. Go ahead and enlighten me as to which comic universe Peter Parker is still the status quo hero, where the comic is being published monthly. The one little comic which based on the Ultimate cartoon?

Go ahead, give examples... I'm waiting.

  6. I totally see why Spidey fans would be upset by this but honestly, I'll be along for the ride as it does take the story someplace different. As has been said many times before, it won't last forever so why get worked up about it?

It's taking the usual body swap story that only lasts a couple of issues and taking it to another level. Why not do that in a Spider-man comic? There have been other comics which have had impersonators or mind control to allow the villains to pretend to be the hero but to actually inhabit their lives to this degree is interesting take.

It does seem reminiscent of the chameleon story in USM but again that was just a short arc, this is an ongoing. I like Slott's writing anyway so no matter how wacky the idea he makes it fun and enjoyable.

    1. I have nothing against body swap stories. But when it involves taking a character who has been nothing by a megalomaniac douche-bag for the entire span of Spider-Man's history and suddenly revealing that he wants to be a hero? That's just bullshit on a stick.

    2. For those dismissing that Peter Parker won't be back in 12 months or a few years -- that doesn't really match up with what Steve Wacker is saying at Marvel:

"For years to come the shadow of Peter Parker is going to be draped over the book. There's nothing you can do about that. But new cast members will come in. Life goes on. Peter Parker fans will sort of fade away over the months and years, and you'll have a bunch of people who only know the new cast."

He also says that #700 is supposed to be the end of Peter Parker as a character. So this is a long term commitment. I also get the feeling that a few years back (if not longer), Marvel editorial made the ridiculous decision to break the "Peter Parker is Spider-Man" connection for good while turning him into a legacy character like Green Lantern (in their minds, Peter Parker is the issue and prevents Spidey from being "timeless"). And this, along with killing off Peter in Ultimate, seems to be a part of the overall plan. Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, recently bemoaned that replacement heroes are never as popular as the originals. So what is Marvel's answer? Get rid of the original everywhere so that he ceases to exist.

      Delete
    3. And yeah, Doctor Octopus always having wanted to be a hero is beyond ridiculous. Is this really the story that Dan Slott always wanted to tell?

      Seriously?

Because I've always wanted to tell a story where the Joker becomes Batman after whining like a bitch that he always felt humiliated after losing their battles, and the Dark Knight discovers that the Clown Price of Crime, in between acts of murder and mayhem, just wanted to be loved.

      Delete
    4. The thing that pisses me off the most about ASM #700, is that by the end Spider-Ock suddenly "believes" that "with great power comes great responsibility". If that were true he'd take responsibility for all the shit he's done including killing the real Peter Parker and stealing the guys life (it seems Marvel now want us to accept a douchebag, super-villain, identity thief as their headline character).

I suspect this is part of a long term plan to f*ck with Sony pictures' Spider-man films by removing Peter Parker from everything until they get the film rights back (somehow). Either that or they have a plan to do an Avengers vs Spiderman at some point in the future, you know, when everyone else figures out that its really Doc-Ock and HE F*CKING KILLED PETER PARKER!!!! Seriously, I like reading Marvel comics but after this... I read Spider-man no more.

IF you want heroes, DEMAND THEM WITH YOUR WALLETS!!!!!

DON'T BUY THIS BONE-HEADED SHIT... DON'T feed the mediocrity and amoral stew that Marvel and DC editorial have devolved to.

I'm sorry, but your favorite current writers are feeding into this crap... Many of them wholeheartedly go along with the editors or even suggest these turd-pile stories.

It's sad that Marvel continues to think that the best Spider-Man is one who's continually shit on or replaced by a token, minority cypher or completely out-of-character megalomaniac.

This is NOT your father's Peter Parker... and frankly, I don't recognize him, either.

AGAIN, DON'T BUY THIS SHIT IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT THE DIRECTION OF YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND THE DEFINITION OF "SUPERHERO."

  9. By the way, does anyone else find it amusing that Dan Slott spent the last six months gloating about how Amazing Spider-Man #700 was going to ruin people's childhood and make fans so pissed that he'd have to go into hiding for a month -- but now that the book has been revealed on the net, he's blubbering like a fool about how it needs to be read "in context" (which is the type of excuse only really corrupt politicians make after they've stepped in it) and that Marvel just wants to "entertain you." Strange how all of his taunting about making people angry and breaking them just went out the window.

I guess they really wanted people to fork over the eight bucks before Spidey fans realized the entire premise for Superior was an atrocious joke. But I wouldn't worry if I were Dan. This shit is still going to sell like hotcakes.

  11. Haven't bought a Marvel comic, or any comic, since the books jumped from $2.25 to $2.50 in one month, for no reason but greed. That was 2005, only 7 little years ago. Now these greedy bastards want $3.99 a book, twice a month? With only like 20 pages, that most are slash pages. Or $7.99 for one freaking issue? ASM 700 would need a gold foiled, die cut variant with free condom and lube package, for me to get screwed like that. I'll pass. I'll just keep on reading my new issues, on new comic day, the same way I have for many many years now. Free, shared amongst friends. Now don't get me started on Variant covers.... hahahahaha

  12. I can´t believe Slott did this, it's just an awful, horrible and despicable way to get Peter Parker out as a character, this is seriously bad, I'm glad I'm not following ASM since Spider-Island, but I really knew that Dan was going to kill Peter Parker.
So, what now? We have a Dead Peter in both, 616 and ultimate universe, and it's a shame to replace the one and only spiderman, with a 13 year old kid, who got his powers the same way Peter did, and it's way more stupid to kill peter, and to complete the desert, replace him, but not only a replacement, they replaced him with his NEMESIS! They'll better get Peter back, because I'm not buying this shit anymore.
Thanks for this man, you really saved me a couple of bucks, I really apreciatte it.

  14. You have to wonder if there is anything that will get Spider-Man readers to finally respond to Marvel like Roberto Duran at the end of his fight with Sugar Ray Leonard:

    "No más, no más..."

Then again, Jack Fisher basically had it right. I'm sure that the comic buying zombies will read #700 in droves, get misty-eyed with all of the sugary gauze that Slott wraps this turd in, and ignore the fact that the whole premise (Ock always wanted to be a hero) is utterly ridiculous. Sales will go up. People will hold out some blind hope that Peter will return, when Marvel editors have indicated otherwise and Slott himself has said his final chapter to Peter's life will change everything for good. That doesn't sound to me like they want to bring Peter back. They want Doctor Octopus to be the new hero. People heading for the exits in droves might change things, but we all know that won't happen.

I guess that explains why Steve Wacker keeps going to CBR and Bleeding Cool where he trolls with abandon, and when other posters tell him they're sick of Marvel's crap, he laughs and snidely responds, "No, you'll keep buying it. We own you." And sure enough, they do.

  15. Aw, don't hate Pete because of Joe Quesada's idiotic decisions.

You know what, I have an idea. Let's just retcon everything after One More Day and offer Joe Quesada, Axel Alonso and Steve Wacker to Mephisto in return.

    Everyone bloody wins.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anyone else get the feeling that Marvel just hates Peter Parker's guts?

It's insane because just about everyone else loves him. He was essentially the perfectly constructed hero and Marvel's flagship character. Then Quesada comes in with his "it's my job to break all of the toys and build them into something else" edict, and he starts having Peter making deals with the devil before killing his ass off in every universe.

Jesus, am I in the Twilight Zone?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe I'm missing something, but why is everyone assuming that this spiderman is Doc Ock and that Peter Parker is dead? I can't read the first shot so maybe I missed something, but why can't this Spiderman be Norman Osborn and Peter Parker is floating around somewhere? It's tough to make assumptions based on just these panels. And if it is Norman Osborn, then anyone who has read Dark Reign, Thunderbolts, etc. would know that Osborn beleives himself to be the good guy so such a change would make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  18. For years (and they may still) Marvel received hate mail regarding Gwen Stacy's death. You don't do that because SHE is beloved, you do that because HE is (now, was) beloved. Parker's sacrifices, his decisions, his compromises, his failures, his successes made him beloved. NOT "cool" powers. What, pray tell, will make The Flawed SpiderOck beloved? A "desire" to be a hero? Because superpowered tentacles couldn't have been used for good? What exactly was stoppng him then? Oh yeah, mental illness from the accident that gave him tentacles and made him a sociopath or psychopath. Which ought to serve him well as a hero. He tried to murder people! More than once! It is almost as if Charles Manson decided to use his charisma over lonely runaway girls for good if his mind was transplanted into a handsome actor like, say, Charlie Sheen. Wait... No, not buying that story if it involved either Chuck. Not buying it if it involves Ock.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Even more pages from the ending have been spoiled online, including Peter's death and having his "Uncle Ben moment" with Doctor Octopus.

    It's still utter nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I honestly think with all these death threats and the hate mail Slott's getting, Spidey will be back to his old self in no time, and Amazing will be rebooted after six issues of The Superior Spider-Man (since thats how many issues they've made so far). I really don't think this will be kept in place, this is kinda like Ben Reily/The Clone Saga, Ben was there for about a year or so, trying to get the fans to embrace him (some did), but since the majority of the fans wanted Pete back, the writers got him back into the spotlight and killed Ben so everything will (hopefully) be fixed by around April/May. Call me whatever, I still don't think this will last...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sad. Really, sad. No, not the narrative ... the industry.

    ReplyDelete
  22. As for where this is all going in Superior Spider-Man, I have a theory, and it's not going to make Spider-Man fans happy (or myself, for that matter).

Dan Slott has already said in an interview that with Superior, he wants to give a new generation of fans "their own Ben Reilly." Steve Wacker at Marvel has also said that this is meant to be the end of Peter Parker. In other words, he's not going to return. The people saying that he'll "just be back in a year" are deluding themselves. Wacker has also predicted that in the coming months and years, Peter Parker "fans" will "fade away" and a "new cast" will arrive, until future readers forget about Parker and only know the new cast. If that's just glorified trolling, it would be hard for him to ever live down. And sadly for Spider-Man fans, I don't think it is.

My guess is that Doctor Octopus/Peter Parker will realize that the only way he can keep Peter's friends and family safe -- while keeping the mind switch a secret -- is by creating a new identity for himself and abandoning the Parker one. Who knows how this will be done, but I think Marvel is serious. They now see Peter Parker as a dead end, and this is the first step in replacing him completely in 616 with a darker, morally conflicted, and "brand new" character that Slott gets to play with.

Praying that I'm wrong, but that's where I think it's going. He might still have bits of Peter Parker's personality breaking through from time to time. But Peter will not ever be fully returning. Period.

At least, that's my guess as to their overall plan. Spider-Man will be a legacy character. Miles Morales in Ultimate, a darker hero in 616, and no Peter anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The problem is that the concept of getting new "fans" involves a clean break. You cannot look me in the eye and tell me that for new "fans" the explanation of this new Spider-Man's identity isn't an unbelievably convoluted mess. At least Miles Morales is just a new character inspired by Pete; try explaining to a kid that Spider-Man is really former enemy Doctor Octopus trapped in Peter Parker's body after killing him but getting brainwashed into being a hero.

Good characters never fade away from public consciousness. You can't make "Peter Parker" fans fade away when popular culture will forever refer to Spidey as such; you'd have just as much luck replacing Batman or Superman with completely different characters (and at least to Batman's credit, it was both with a character we always knew would take up the mantle AND they clearly promised Bruce would return). You think you can keep the Spider-Man movies up with Peter Parker while a completely different PP runs around in the comics? For that matter, you think you can introduce an Ock-Pete in the movies and cartoons without confusing the daylights out of people?

And never say a character will "never" return. The problem is you're assuming the industry has integrity. Marvel's broken many of their own promises in terms of things that they'd never do (Wolverine's origin, bringing Bucky back from the dead, heck they even got around bringing Jean Grey back without actually bringing her back). If we, the fans, actually stop giving them money (which for the first time in 15 years I won't do, goodbye subscription) then they'll toss this out the window faster than they tossed out Alpha.

      Delete
    2. I hope to God you're right.

But I really do think Marvel is going bonkers with the idea of trying to make Spider-Man into some kind of legacy character. On its face, I think it's ridiculous. Even Miles Morales, who I thought was completely unnecessary and arbitrary as a replacement character, is rapidly losing sales in Ultimate (only a couple thousand issues a month above where Ultimate Peter was selling post-Ultimatum, post relaunch, and post Bendis clearly needing to step down and let someone else have a crack at the title).

I agree with all of your points, but I'm worried that the editors don't. And I also have no faith with the comic book readers, many of whom are crediting Slott for having "balls" and saying they will be "along for the ride."

      Delete
  23. ASM 700 is actually a good read. The two or three pages before those displayed above explain why Doc Ock says what he says. Please read the whole issue :) I'm sure Peter Parker will return in the future. The current change to the character might also have been made so Marvel (Disney) could obtain the rights from Sony Pictures to make it's own Spider-Man movies, or make them in a way that circumvents Sony's movie rights. Sony currently owns the rights to make Spider-Man movies, not Marvel Studios. This would also allow Marvel Studios to include Spider-Man in movies with its other properties like Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers, X-Men, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I printed that Sony on my Twitter account about Disney getting Spider-Man rights back from Sony (So naturally I think it will happen). That said, if Dr. Octopus is SSM, then I am done with comics. I want from reading and buying many Marvel comics (And exclusively Marvel) to only one comic book: The AMAZING Spider-Man. This is a kick in the teeth to loyal fans who supported Marvel through some of the worst times in Spider-Man history, including "Sins Of The Past" OMD & "The Clone Saga." Doc Ock is the man who MURDERED Capt Stacy in ASM 91, and now he becomes Spider-Man? Ock as Spider-Man would be worse than making The Joker Batman. Wacker, Slott and the rest at Marvel are a bunch of elitists who think they can do Spider-Man and his supporting cast better than Stan Lee. Lets see what they did: Killed off Pete in Ultimate: Sold the marriage down the drain to essentially the Devil. Had Gwen have kids with Norman Osborn. Had Curt Connors murder his kid. Now Ock as Spider-Man? Not with my money. I have to say it is disgusting that Dan Slott received Death Threats (A fictional character's is not worth that). But there is one way to get Disney's/Marvel's attention: Do not spend your money on anything related to Spider-Man (Except back issues). No films, merchandising, and especially SSM. When they get financially bit on the a** (Like with "The Clone Saga"), Pete will come back. The problem is unlike the four years I spent away after the "Clone Saga" I will not come back with him.

    1. I'm not so sure about Peter coming back. Dan Slott said this in an interview over at Bleeding Cool:

"This is for real! This is my biggest whack at the comic book piñata. I’m breaking it and all the candy’s coming out. It’s not going back together."

Combine that with Marvel Editor Steve Wacker saying that Peter will "fade away" over the coming years, and you have your answer about this being just a 12 issue arc. Marvel is going for the long play on this thing. Of course, it could change if comic book nerds would close their wallets and sales go into the toilet, but we know that will never happen. Too many people buying books out of insane habit.

R.I.P. Peter Parker. You deserved better.

      Delete
    2. Anyone who thinks Peter Parker will "fade away" assumes the new comics will have way more of an impact than they actually will. Last I checked, the new Amazing Spider-Man movies still star Peter Parker, and they know making that Pete an OctoSpidey would be an unbelievable mess.

Spidey's one of the few superheroes around who non-fans know the identity of right off the bat. Wacker's an idiot if he truly believes a character with 60-70+ years of appeal will "fade away." They couldn't wipe Pete away when Ben Reilly came in, you think they can do it with this nonsense?

Gah, I know without delusion this won't last (it'd be more deluded to think that Marvel would actually stick to anything that is too significantly against the status quo, especially if it eventually kills their sales) but I'm still pissed somebody thought this would be good storytelling and a worthwhile way to treat a character that's inspired tons of people.

    3. The avalanche of press releases today (12/26/12) have both Wacker and Slott saying that Peter is done. This is a permanent change. Marvel's EIC Axel Alonso was apparently not on board at first (he was willing to experiment in the Ultimate line only), but finally was convinced to give Peter Parker the boot.

I'd love to see comic nerds reject it, but that ain't happening folks.

  25. FUCK DAN SLOTT!!! THIS IS TERRIBLE!

I grew up with spider-man. I can't believe they did this. Having Gwen Stacy have an affair with Norman Osborn was bad enough. But THIS CRAP! Oh man. I don't know what to say. I'm having a hard enough time with Bendis trying to destroy everything Grant Morrison did with Marvel (X-men, Marvel Boy etc..) But this was a total fail. I thought Marvel Now would be exciting but at the moment I just can't help feeling disappointed and betrayed. They're even trying to make a black Nick Fury on Earth 616. What the heck are they thinking. It's ruined. Everything is ruined.

  27. Wow...so many comments. Thanks a lot guys! But you should know that Marvel will consider this move a success if outraged fans still buy their shit. The only way for Marvel to get the message is if fans stop buying. And since that probably won't happen, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Nuff said!

  29. People, it is simple. There is one way to show Marvel nobody likes this shit: DON'T buy it. I mean, they tried to do the same thing back in the 90's when they tried to replace Peter with Ben Reilly, and after a few months they had to go back to the original status quo because of low sales. They tried to replace Cap with Bucky, and after some time, they brought the original back.

If you dont buy it, they will have no other choice. You atre still sooo addicted to spider-man you can't help but read it? Then dowsload the pirated scans! Jesus, Piratebay, Mediafile and all those even sound familiar to you?

  30. What really sucks about this is that we already HAVE a character that's basically "the Superior Spider-Man"-Kaine Parker! His story makes a lot more sense because he is a clone of Pete, and at different times in his history, he has walked the line between hero and villain! I guess that Doc Ock's first big arc will be trying to find a way to get rid of the Spider-Guys that are basically him already - Kaine, Flash Thompson, and Eddie Brock!

  31. What is disturbing is the attitude of Slott, Wacker, and the rest of Marvel. They do not care about what is right or about fans (Particularly those who supported the AMAZING Spider-Man down through the years), nor the history of the comic, and why the comic was a success. The thing that differentiated Spider-Man from other comic book characters was Peter Parker. Pete, was a person with super powers, but had the same issues the rest of us deal with: Women, insecurity, money, doubts, having a job, family, responsibility and balancing a life. Those issues are why Pete was an incredible character. Everyone knows that most people in the comic book industry are extreme liberals (Slott like John Byrne before him comes to mind). But unlike before they are injecting their political philosophies into the comic: Selling the soul to the Devil (Also known as OMD), rewarding ugly behavior (Having Ock becoming Spider-Man after murdering Capt. Stacy, like having Osborn sleeping with Gwen and then being responsible for her death), and basically saying Doc Ock being a bad guy was not his fault, he is basically misunderstood and a product of his environment, and taking a decent character like Peter Parker and make him suffer seeing Ock have sex with Aunt May (Talk about unnecessary). Essentially Marvel gave Peter Parker fans the finger after Christmas, and if they had their way, they would acquire the rights to "The Grinch" and make him a heroic figure. I am through with comics.

  32. i havent been a loyal follower since the end of the first volume.

i have still bought heaps of spidey stuff but i alywas have to search for info and reviews and i ALWAYS do a flip through the comic book now BEFORE i buy.

whereas before i was counting the days and BANG just bought it all up.

yep... its been crap for a while but thats the price of an established ethos i suppose - you have to be more picky with your purchases.

Have to say though... marvel sure is doing a lot of weird shit... but could you imagine if they made Peter parker have a long lost brother called Owl Man... haha..

anyway... yer this is shit... plenty of backlogs and stuff to buy though.. im used to this crap by now. no sale.... more flicking through comics for good ones.... eh

  34. KISS MY ASS YOU INGRATES!I'm the man that revolutionized Spider-man,hell I'm the man that revolutionized the entire comic book industry!I don't care about Peter Praker or whatever the hell his name is!The only thing I care about is money, cash, dough,el dollaro. That's why I've decided to make my favorite super villain(as well as one sexy son of a gun if I may add) the lead character in the Spider-man comic books.I don't care if you think it makes sense or not!I'll make Aunt May grow another pair of legs, lose her left eye and do an Elvis Presley impersonation if I want to.So stop trying to comprehend my superior intellect and just buy my comics.Buying is good, buying is your friend, buying is your reason for living. So buy buy buy and don't worry about a thing.Happy Holidays everybody!!!

  35. Press releases at USA Today and CNN from Marvel, of course. Sorry guys, but Steve Wacker is saying it's a permanent change, so don't kid yourselves:

"This was an idea Dan had when he came onto the book. It changed shape as we went. It wasn't originally going to be in the 700th issue, but as the story grew, we realized maybe it was time to change up the makeup of Spider-Man for good, to make a permanent change. With that and the fact that the 50th anniversary was approaching, we thought, let's go out with a bang."

And right on cue, the "reviews" at Newsarama and other sites are giving ASM #700 perfect scores -- 10 out of 10 and so forth.

Hope you enjoy the adventures of Doctor Octopus.

  36. Lame lame lame!
I saw Dan Slott in a Marvel video a couple of years ago & he looked liek a retard then; now he's acting like one.
I've cut down on all my comic downloads over the last year because we as loyal readers care what happens to our favorite charcaters but the horrible truth is: NOTHING MATTERS! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Writers are free to twist and shred any character without regard to their history.
Gwen with Norman was the aboslute pits I thought - but this takes the cake!
    Complete & utter floating turds!

  37. *sigh* Seems like a lame ploy to cheat Sony out of spiderman. I feel bad for Stan Lee, though; Peter Parker, spiderman, is one of the most iconic and loved superheroes ever. One with actually some drama. R.I.P. Parker, R.I.P. Spiderman.
