I did it once and I pissed a few people off in the process. So I'm doing it again because I'm a drunk and I stop giving a shit after a certain number of shots! I'm going to spoil another landmark issue of Amazing Spider-Man that has Marvel has been billing as the biggest Spider-Man milestone since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's last simultaneous fart together. Amazing Spider-Man #700 isn't just billed as this huge milestone for a comic. It's supposed to set the stage for a big relaunch called Superior Spider-Man. I'm not sure how he's supposed to be superior. Early indications seem to imply that he's meaner, tougher, and more of an overall asshole. Shit, if that's superior, then my high school gym teacher was practically a god. But it's still speculation at this point.
For now, we know that Doctor Octopus swapped minds with Peter Parker. So for a while now Doc Ock has been parading around in Peter's body, playing the part of a hero, and boning all his women. It's basically the ultimate "fuck you" from a villain. Peter, now stuck in Doc Ock's body, is trying to fight back by getting his body back before Doc Ock fucks his reputation, ruins his relationships, or gets him one too many STDs. Amazing Spider-Man #700 is supposed to show how it all ends. Well until now, we could only speculate. Then the fine folks at 4chan leaked images online and since I'm such a generous guy, I'm going to share them here on this blog! First off, a clear warning. If you scroll down further, you will see some very spoilerific images!

I know the image quality is pretty shitty. It's the best I can do. But if it helps, here are a few more images that break down the final pages.
Hint, that's not Doc Ock that's lying dead in the street...not entirely anyways.
This confirms one rumor, namely about Spider-Man being more of an asshole. It's like giving my old gym teacher super-powers. No good can come of it.
Just some casual boasting to end it all. It's the kind of boasting that is not the mark of a hero or anyone who preaches shit like power and responsibility, but I guess Marvel just thinks that shit isn't cool.
So there you have it. This is the new Superior Spider-Man. I'm not going to go too deep into my opinions while I'm this drunk, but I will make one important note to those hardcore Spider-Man fans that I know will be outraged. This is EXACTLY what Marvel wants. They figured out back during One More Day, Ultimatum, Avengers vs. X-men, Disassembled, and the Clone Saga that no matter how outraged fans get, they still buy their shit. I'm not sure they understand it. I don't think they give three tenths of a shit anyways. But for some reason, outraged fans still buy their shit. Marvel doesn't fear pissing off their fans anymore. They only fear their fans getting apathetic. That's the biggest weapon against comics. Apathy. The day fans become apathetic is the day Marvel knows they made a huge mistake. And because of outrage, this book will sell and they won't care how pissed off the people buying it are. So from one fanboy to many others, we've no one to blame but ourselves for this shit. It's not Marvel. It's us. We're terrible. I'm an adult. I know how to deal with it. And when I can't, I drink. It's a perfect solution! Nuff said.

Amazing Spider-Man #700 and UN-Amazing Spoilers
X-men Supreme Issue #69 - Kings and Tyrants Part 1 PREVIEW
The X-men Supreme Phoenix Saga is over and this fanfiction series will never be the same. Jean Grey, Cyclops,
and the X-men as a whole will never be the same. But the world around
them will continue to carry on. In the midst of the Phoenix Saga, the
ongoing drama with the Presidential Election is still unresolved.
Whereas the real election has passed, an election that's every bit as
important to the X-men Supreme fanfiction series is almost here. The
X-men won't have much time to recover from the impact left by the
Phoenix Force. A new conflict is already brewing in a new arc that will
set the stage for the epic conclusion of X-men Supreme Volume 3: Ashes
of Hope. As always, I've prepared an extended preview of what you can expect from this latest issue of X-men Supreme.
The presidential hopeful and proud father gave his kids another firm hug before letting them go. His son and daughter weren’t the only one who he hadn’t seen in a while. His wife, Sharon, had been working just as hard as him during this campaign. It was refreshing to see her in person for once.
“Kids, go with Daddy’s friends and get changed real quick,” he told his kids, “Daddy needs to talk to Mommy.”
“Do we have to?” his daughter complained.
“This is an important night, sweetheart. We have to be looking our best for it.”
The two young children begrudgingly conceded and followed one of the body guards into the bedroom so they could get changed. This left him alone with his wife, who was smiling just as much as he was.
“Hello there, stranger. How have you been holding up?” she asked as she pulled him into a quick embrace.
“As well as can be expected, Sharon,” sighed Robert, “Stryker’s been taking care of the setup. He’s also going to warm the reporters up before the festivities begin.”
“I hope you’re not giving him too many responsibilities. You know how I feel about that man. After that mess with Graydon Creed, I find him less than trustworthy.”
“Yes, you’ve made no secret of that. But I would rather not have that discussion again. Tonight is about the future. Not the past.”
“It still feels like we’re getting ahead of ourselves though,” Sharon pointed out, “This elaborate victory party feels a bit premature.”
“It helps to present an aura of confidence. You’re a former public relations consultant and political aide. You know how important it is to present an image.”
“It’s not your image that worries me, Robert. A lot of people are already painting you as the White Knight setting off to do battle with the mutant menace. It’s the target you’re painting on your back that keeps me up at night. Even this army of security guards you’ve surrounded yourself with isn’t putting my mind at ease.”
“You’re still worried I’ll invite retaliation from disgruntled mutants?”
“With the policies you’re pushing, that’s a given.”
“And it’s a risk we have to take, Sharon. If I don’t do this, someone else will have to and they may not be as strong,” he pionted out.
“I never doubted your strength, Robert. But it isn’t just the mutants that worry me. That madman who tried to kill you in Philadelphia was just as dangerous. If you do win this thing, what’s to stop other people from doing something just as extreme?”
She clung to him a little harder as she detailed these concerns. This wasn’t the first time she brought them up and it probably wouldn’t be the last. If he won the election, it would become an even bigger issue. It was something that was always on Senator Kelly’s mind and something he didn’t take lightly.
“I understand this is stressful. I’ve lost my share of sleep over it as well,” he said in a caring tone, “But that is the risk every president takes.”
“So why do you continue to take even greater risks?” asked Sharon.
“Because this time the stakes are even higher. We’re not just talking about making the transition from one president to the next. We’re talking about a new era for this country and the world as a whole! I thrust myself into this position because I truly believe I can lead everyone down the right path.”
“You don’t have to convince me of that, Robert. I knew from day one how important this is to you. It’s important to me too. I wouldn’t have supported you this much if I didn’t share this ambition.”
“And I’ll need that support if and when I take office. You’ve known me for years, Sharon. You know I’m a man of conviction. Every politician may say that, but I’m the only one who truly means it. When I said I wanted to protect my family from all the dangerous mutants out there, I meant it.”
“I know you do. I’m just as concerned about mutants as you are. I do not want the children growing up in a world where they have to worry about some freak shooting them with heat vision or lightning bolts.”
“And the sad part is that’s probably not the worst of it,” he added.
“Even if it wasn’t, you’re bearing an awful heavy load for the world, Robert. I know you feel ready for it. I just don’t know if I’m ready. Or the children for that matter.”
“Hey, I wouldn’t have done this in the first place if I didn’t think my family was ready,” said Robert, holding his wife a little closer, “You’re strong, Sharon. That’s one of the reasons I married you. The kids are strong too even if they are restless. I just need you to hold onto that strength. These are historic times for us all. One way or another, I’m going to be a part of it and I want you to be a part of it as well.”
When he put it in such a grand context, Sharon couldn’t help but be overwhelmed again. Even in the comforting embrace of her husband, she still had so many concerns.
“Oh Robert…” she said.
“Please Sharon…I need you for this.”
The presidential hopeful gently cupped her chin as he gazed longingly into her eyes. It was a gaze she always struggled to tear herself away from. She wanted to be strong for him. She really did. This was just such a big endeavor it was hard to wrap her head around it.
Trying to show his support, Senator Kelly began to draw her into a kiss. He had to remind her that they were in this together. They would make it through together. But just as his lips were about to touch hers, there was another knock on his door.
“Ah hell, hold that thought,” he said, placing a finger on her lips, “Could one of you get that? I don’t remember inviting anyone up.”
“Of course, senator,” said one of his body guards, “Go ahead and carry on with the Misses.”
The lone body guard rushed to the door. Ever since the Philadelphia debacle, the Senator kept many layers of security around him. Not just anybody could be allowed to get close to him. They always had to go through security, less some renegade mutant tried something funny.
Maintaining a cautious demeanor, the body guard looked through the peep hole to see who it was. He quickly identified it as Reverend Stryker.
“Reverend Stryker?”
“Please, let me in. I need to talk to Senator Kelly. It’s very important,” he said in a strangely mechanical tone.
“He’s a bit busy with his family, but so long as it’s important,” the body guard replied.
Since Reverend Stryker was one of the few man who had easy access to the senator, the body guard relaxed somewhat as he opened the door. But as soon as he did, he noticed something was off. Reverend Stryker’s expression looked somewhat…stiff, for lack of a better word.
“Reverend Stryker? Are you alright?” he asked, “You look a little…”
Suddenly, the body of the Reverend fell forward and landed flat on his face. It was as if he was a statue, landing with a hard thud. The body guard fell back in shock, confused at what he just saw. Then he looked up to see that someone had been standing behind the Reverend.
“Don’t worry. He’ll be fine,” said Exodus in a cold tone, “You on the other hand…”
I'm very proud of how the Phoenix Saga turned out. Some have already commented on how the ending was much different than the X-men comics or even the cartoons. I've also had a few comments from those who are a bit confused about what I've done with the Phoenix Force in X-men Supreme. I'll say right now that the Phoenix Force operates much differently in X-men Supreme than it does in other mediums. It's very different from what some Marvel comic fans recently read in Marvel's recent Avengers vs. X-men story. But the nature of the Phoenix Force in X-men Supreme hasn't been completely fleshed out yet. I left a few questions unanswered for a reason. So rest assured, this is NOT the last Phoenix story you'll see in the X-men Supreme fanfiction series. Both the Phoenix Force and Jean Grey will undergo some major developments in future stories, but details on those developments will have to wait.
For now, my focus is on wrapping up X-men Supreme Volume 3: Ashes of Hope. The X-men have come a long way since this fanfiction series began. And the next step promises to take them in a bold new direction. As always, I strongly encourage everybody to provide feedback on each issue or contact me if you have any questions or comments. I'm always happy to listen and respond! I have so much I want to do in the post-Phoenix Saga world of X-men Supreme. I hope many others will come along for the ride. Until next time, take care and best wishes! Excelsior!

Xtreme X-men #7.1 - Full Circle Awesome
I'm a firm believer in the whole parallel universe concept that some egghead scientists have plagiarized from science fiction to explain the universe. Sometimes I wonder what sort of fucked up incarnations of myself may exist on a parallel universe. Maybe in one universe I'm a born again Christian, registered Republican, and closeted homosexual that secretly hangs out in gay bath houses when the wife and kids are out of town. Or maybe there's another universe where I'm as smart as Reed Richards, as handsome as Captain America, and have a Nobel Prize for each day of the week. Or maybe one of my parallel selves is the same drunk who just reviews different comics every week. Whatever the case, I imagine that meeting would make for some pretty fucked up conversations. In Xtreme X-men, Greg Pak has been vividly imagining those fucked up conversations and telling some pretty awesome stories from them.
Since Dazzler's parallel universe-hopping journey began, she's encountered some pretty fucked up incarnations of the X-men we know and love. We've seen them as X-gods. We've seen them as John Wayne cos-players. We've seen them as extras in a Terminator-style post-apocalyptic world. Hell, we've even seen a version of Wolverine that isn't obsessed with redheaded married women and prefers the intimate company of Ricky Martin, Jim Parsons, and Elton John. You're not going to get that kind of shit without the aid of powerful drugs anywhere else and since my dealer recently skipped town, Xtreme X-men has been a great source of mind-fucks.
But as fun as Xtreme X-men has been, there are some elments Pak hasn't explored yet. We've encounterd numerous versions of Charles Xavier, Danger, and Wolverine. But to date Dazzler hasn't come face-to-face with another version of herself. You have to believe that Greg pak has been fooling around with that idea since he started this series. It's just been a matter of finding the right moment so that it fucks with Dazzler to the greatest possible extent. Well in the previous issue, Dazzler and her team managed to rescue Kid Nightcrawler from his world after ditching Xavier-in-a-Jar in a Savage Land universe. It was a dramatic and emotional issue, but it ended with the prospect of Dazzler having to meet up with another version of herself. Because apparently Xavier-in-a-Jar got board of waiting and recruited a new team of alternate X-men. And as it just so happens, one of those X-men is another Dazzler. Because let's face it, you can't have too many pretty blonds in comic books.
Xtreme X-men #7.1 attempts to do what every other .1 issue is supposed to do (and often fails miserably at, mind you) and establish a twisted set of circumstances meant to be new-reader friendly. I shutter to think how confused some readers will be when they try to digest all this alternate universe crap with a gay Wolverine, but at least Marvel is making a concerted effort. The issue takes place right after the events of Xtreme X-men #7 where Sage helped Dazzler, Wolverine, and Kid Nightcrawler escape a Terminator-esque world where the machines won and weren't stupid enough to keep a few humans alive to do menial work. Since Sage isn't up to speed on the whole Xavier-in-a-Jar conflcit, Dazzler gives her a quick update while trying her best to maintain a straight face. Most people would be rightfully skeptical if a hot blond told you all about her struggles against evil bald men in jars, X-gods, and old west cos-players. We would probably write that off as a metaphor for going on a cocaine bender with a guy that slipped her a few too many roofies. But Sage doesn't have the luxury of laughing it off and encouraging Dazzler to get the morning after pill because their ship is attacked by a hoard of Brood, who have overtaken a giant space whale-version of Xavier. Suddenly, the story about X-gods and the old west seems much more believable.
The motivations of the Brood aren't very different no matter what universe they're in. They want to overtake a host, maul them horribly, and laugh while singing Disco Inferno as they burn the corpses. The problem is Charles Xavier, who is one of the few telepaths strong enough to fuck with the hive's collective psyche. So upon seeing that the world of Terminator rip-offs is devoid of vulnerable fleshy creatures to maul, they seek another world where Xavier is not a factor. Guess which world comes to mind?
As it just so happens, Charles Xavier murdered by Cyclops and his brain was cut out by the Red Skull in the good old 616 universe. That's not only convenient for the Brood. It most likely makes them uncontrollably horny as well. So they venture to 616 where we don't just catch up with a world that has been utterly ignored since the beginning of Xtreme X-men. We actually catch up with the events of Avengers vs. X-men. It comes in just after Avengers vs. X-men Consequences and in the midsts of a story that's unfolding in All New X-men. Cyclops is struggling to control his new powers and still dealing with the guilt of having killed Xavier. It creates the perfect set of circumstances for Dazzler's story with the alternate universe X-men to continue. Cyclops happens to be combing through the ruins of Utopia when the Brood attack his ripe, guilt ridden mind. This may be a dick move on most levels, but it's still an amazingly awesome moment because it effectively re-establishes the Xtreme X-men conflict in 616. It may not sound like much, but if you were sober enough to remember all this shit did essentially start with 616. So I applaud Greg Pak for having the foresight to include that in this series, less he get too comfortable telling stories about alternate universes where Wolverine is gay.
We find out that in trying to locate Xavier-in-a-Jar across universes, Dazzler and her X-men team of alternate renegades tore a few holes in the multiverse for the Brood and their Whale Xavier to exploit. Using one of those holes, they find their way back to the 616 universe where Cyclops is emotionally fragile and ripe for exploiting. They essentially see him the same way tentacle monsters see cute Japanese school girls with big breasts. As is their nature, the Brood start fucking with him using Xavier's powers by giving him visions of Xavier.
It's not overly emotional because it isn't real, but Pak still does a decent job at giving Cyclops a reaction. Hell, he had a more emotional reaction here than he did in Avengers vs. X-men Consequences or All New X-men. I know that's not saying much for a guy like Cyclops, but it certainly adds weight to the scene. Even after Dazzler and her team show up, following the Brood through the rips in the multiverse, the impact is still there even though Dazzler finds a way to make light of it in an absurdly insensitive way. But since she wasn't around to see how Avengers vs. X-men became so obscenely fucked up, I give her a pass.
After clashing with Cyclops, he passes out and Dazzler's team scrambles for answers as to what fucked up universe they're in now. It's a rather humorous, albeit eye-rolling, situation because Dazzler doesn't know she's back in her home universe. After Kid Nightcrawler uncovers the events of Avengers vs. X-men on an old computer, Dazzler thinks is on the same level as a universe where the X-men think their gods or where Xavier is a giant whale. But once Cyclops wakes up, he confirms it. He informs Dazzler that in the time since she left, he killed Xavier. She still refuses to believe it, thinking he must have been evil or something. But if evil means talking down to your first student like a dog while he's packing Phoenix heat, then I guess that qualifies. It shouldn't be this bemusing that Dazzler doesn't want this to believe it's her world and yet it is. You almost feel sorry for her. There are a long list of dumb blond jokes I could tell her, but I'll refrain out of sympathy.
Lucky for Dazzler, Cyclops doesn't get the chance to convince her that this is the world she left behind and missed out on all the action. The Whale Xavier arrives, complete with its hoard of flesh-ripping Brood. Knowing Cyclops mauled this universe's Charles Xavier so they wouldn't have to, they unleash an unholy cosmic hell that would probably have some people wishing for a derange Dark Phoenix. Personally, I would rather be instantly torched rather than eaten alive by aliens that look like mounds of horse shit. But that's just me. Cyclops in turn joins Dazzler's team as they fight the Brood in a nice action scene that has them trying to protect nearby civilians, including the hot guy that Dazzler was trying to fuck in the first issue. I'm pretty the threat of being mauled by aliens has killed his boner, but she still goes out of her way to save him and Cyclops sets his self-loathing aside to help out. He's already killed one Xavier. Why not kill a giant Whale Xavier?
As the battle is unfolding, Sage uses her telepathy to make contact with the Whale Xavier. Unfortunately, she doesn't get a chance to explore all the twisted thoughts a Whale Xavier may have. Instead, she finds out that the Brood have burrowed into the Whale Xavier's brain stem where they've been essentially throwing a non-stop keg party, gorging on brain matter in the same way drunks gorge on Taco Bell at three in the morning. Dazzler manages to coordinate with Wolverine enough to get him inside where he could bust up the party in a way the assholes at the DEA could only dream of. This Wolverine may be gay, but he can still rip through alien monsters the same way an army of PMSing women rip through a chocolate factory. Somewhere out there, the members of Westboro Baptist Church are shitting themselves and it's a glorious stench!
As the Brood are killed, this creates another emotional moment. The Whale Xavier, now free from the Queen Brood's influence, asks Cyclops and Dazzler to kill him. Now that the queen is dead, the rest of the Brood will be more pissed than an angry grizzly that just found out someone shot her cubs. It's emotional because Cyclops makes it clear he wants to save this Xavier in the way he couldn't save his Charles Xavier. But it's no use. This Whale Xavier knows there's no other way. But this time, Cyclops doesn't have to bear the burden. Dazzler takes care of it. She doesn't need to go Dark Phoenix this time. She just does what he asks and accepts the burden.
Now this is an emotional moment that could have definitely been drawn out, but the impact is still strong. Cyclops killed Xavier and now he has to watch another one die. It adds some extra challenges to the journey he's been on in other comics, but it also continues Dazzler's mission of Xavier-hunting. It's a perfect way to entwine Xtreme X-men with the other X-books. Such synergy is brilliant in its own right and appropriate in the grand scheme of the X-books. For a title that's been basically akin to an X-men LSD trip, that's pretty damn awesome.
In the end, Dazzler still has to fess up that this world where Cyclops killed Charles Xavier is her world. She claims she's not dumb, but again you could probably insert any dumb blond joke you wanted for this scene and it would still be just as appropriate. But beyond the blond jokes, Cyclops gives Dazzler a few last words of wisdom. She proved that she could handle leading a team of misfits through some pretty fucked up scenarios that involves Whale Xaviers, aliens monsters, and a gay Wolverine. He says those are all marks of a great leader. Now I'm tempted to say his standards for a great leader are pretty fucked up, but for a guy who boned both Jean Grey and Emma Frost who am I to judge? Dazzler accepts his advice and decides to continue her journey with her misfit team of alternate universe renegades. Somehow that seems more appealing than hanging out in the post Avengers vs. X-men world and I can't say I blame her.
Anyone who has dropped enough acid or smoked enough joints will tell you that after a while it's easy to forget how you started the night hanging out with a couple of friends and ended up face down in a hotel bathroom wearing women's underwear with a tattoo of a donkey fucking a goose on your back. Stories that are really out there are easy to lose track of, so much so that you flat out forget how the fuck they began in the first place. This is usually remedied with a few extra bong hits, but Xtreme X-men #7.1 provides an alternative that won't get you on the DEA's shit list. It doesn't just effectively remind the reader that the events of Xtreme X-men still have an effect on the good old 616 universe, but it actaully succeeds in doing what a .1 issue is supposed to do. It's taken Marvel way too many tries, but they finally got it right. As someone who has failed way more breathalizer tests than he's passed, I'm okay with that.
This comic didn't just move the story of Dazzler and her universe-hopping X-men froward. It established her as a competent leader of the pack while helping Xtreme X-men as a whole catch up with current events in 616. It would have been easier (hell, it would have been expected) for Marvel to just ignore the overall scope of Xtreme X-men and just carry on as if Dazzler would never be curious about her home universe again. But that didn't happen here. Greg Pak went back to the beginning here while still moving the story forward. That's like a stripper giving you a lap dance while she does your taxes for next year. It's the kind of multi-tasking, all-encompassing story telling that separates good comics from the awesome comics you remember even while stoned. In one issue Xtreme x-men went from being excessively out there to actually being relevant with the other X-books. That's a hell of an accomplishment in a world where comic companies regularly give only half a damn about making sure shit actually makes sense.
Xtreme X-men #7.1 had all the right elements and they came together in all the right ways. It didn't just help new readers catch up with the shit that's been going on in this universe-hopping story. It established Dazzler as a strong leader that's more than just a hot blond meant to appeal to the Katy Perry crowd of comic fans. The only major complaint I have about this issue is that we never got to see Dazzler's full reaction to the events of Avengers vs. X-men. That aspect seemed glossed over. While it didn't take away from the story too much, it did feel like it was avoided on purpose and that's a shame. If for no other reason than to see Dazzler slap Cyclops across the face. But I guess that's just have to assume that Dazzler wanted to bone Cyclops more than she wanted to slap him. I still give Xtreme X-men #7.1 a 4.5 out of 5. You may or may not think there's a place for an X-men comic that spans alternate universes and follows a team led by a hot blond chick. You many not even think the premise of Xtreme X-men is all that appealing. But to quote the immortal Samuel L. Jackson, I say, "Hell no, motherfucker!" In this universe, this comic still qualifies as awesome. Nuff said!

Cable and X-Force #1 - Gritty, Flawed, and Awesome
There are some people that are just more well-suited to a particular job than the average joe. Surgeons are well-suited because of their ability to not throw up at the sight of blood, puss, and undigested food. Mechanics are well-suited because of their ability to stick their hands into the guts of a machine and know how to not lose a limb. And politicians are well-suited because of their inherent ability to bullshit large groups of people. For a team like X-Force, who prides themselves on enlisting the help of X-men with certain personality disorders, some characters are just better at it than others. They're either trained killers, sociopaths, or so emotionally damaged that the thought of blowing a hole in somebody's head only reminds them that they skipped lunch. And few characters demonstrate that capability better than Cable.
There was a time not long ago where Cable was an integral part of the X-books because he was responsible for protecting the mutant messiah that would grow up to be an annoying, pissant little brat named Hope Summers. He did his job, but had to have a little R&R from all the time-traveling, ball-busting bullshit that Hope put him through. In the Marvel universe, the only R&R anyone gets is death. And after Second Coming, he had more than his fair share. Even after he came back in X-Sanction and was fully healed from the techno-organic virus, he remained on the sidelines. Hell, he didn't even do jack shit during Avengers vs. X-men when the world hinged on Hope's ability to not fuck up. She ended up doing so anyways, ignoring some of Cable's most basic lessons such as not ditching the people who sacrifice damn near everything for you or running away when shit gets heavy. I suspect he chose not to involve himself because he knew his brains would fall out of his head for rolling his eyes so damn much. Now that he's fully rested, he finally has the strength to deal with Hope's bullshit and get back to doing what he does best in leading a team of sociopath killers and carrying big ass guns. He's basically a walking trailer for the Expendables movies.
This brings us to Cable and X-Force, one of the big Marvel NOW! titles for the X-books. It's a book that puts Cable back in his element, shifting the focus away from him having to change the diapers of an annoying Jean Grey ripoff and getting back to basics with a new X-Force. Now like the guy who prematurely ejaculates when he's with a hot prostitute, Marvel is jumping the gun here because Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force hasn't ended yet. We still don't know the fate of the previous X-Force yet we're already getting a new one? Did All New X-men fuck with the space time continuum too much already? This may be one instance where Marvel just shrugs their shoulders and says, "It's magic. Assume Mephisto did it in exchange for more opportunities to fuck with Spider-Man." I usually despise that logic, but the promise of more X-Force and Cable being back in action is enough to make me overlook it. That and a few extra bong hits usually does the trick.
The new world of Cable and X-Force #1 has plenty to offer. It sets the tone early by jumping way ahead after Cable has recruited his full team Domino, Dr. Nemesis, and Colossus who apparently stopped whining after his sister fucked him over at the end of Avengers vs. X-men. Together, they emerge from your standard evil lair/chemical factory found in no fewer than a billion comic book plots surrounded by death and destruction. It may seem overly gritty to some, but if you know anything at all about X-Force books you know damn well that this kind of shit is obligitory in X-Force books. It would be like having a James Bond movie where he doesn't bone a hot chick. So save the bitching for something or someone more deserving!
Unfortunately for Cable's new team (for whom we have no explanation on how the fuck he got them together, mind you) that kind of death and destruction is a big no-no when it's not sanctioned by the government, the Avengers, or the voices in George W. Bush's head. This attracts the attention of the Uncanny Avengers, which makes for a nice little tie-in to the rest of the Marvel books. We usually don't get that shit in X-Force so I'll look at this as extra frosting atop a cake served right out of a war zon in Afghanistan. Havok, already pissed that Cyclops has given the Summers family a bad name, tries to get an explanation from Cable about why the fuck he's doing this at a time when mutants can't afford to be branded as terrorists. Cable's response...he shoots Havok in the face. Excuse me while I get some tissues and change my shorts.
Now usually everyone not named Dick Cheny doesn't support shooting people in the face. But after Havok proved to be a total douche in Uncanny Avengers and after doing absolutely jack shit in Avengers vs. X-men, he's more than deserving of a pounding migraine at the very least. When you bitch and moan about shit that you were perfectly capable of confronting beforehand, your whining has as much credibility as Donald Trump. Havok should consider himself lucky that being shot in the face by his nephew was all he got.
We go from a long overdue moment to a moment that could wait until the end of time for all I care. I've made no bones about my utter hatred for Hope "Jean Rip-Off" Summers. I could do no fewer than ten blog posts on all the reasons why she's the most annoying pissant little brat in X-men that wasn't created by Chuck Austin. But I understand that any story about Cable is going to involve Hope by default. He still raised her to be the annoying bratty pissant whose sole purpose as the mutant messiah was just to fucking let the Phoenix Force go once she got it. Right, like that shit requires a lifetime of training. And what did she do when the chaos was over and some of the people who sacrificed so much for her ended up in jail? She fucking left! If she wants sympathy, she'll have to pay a crack whore in withdrawal.
But I digress. Hope, despite enjoying all the comforts of having ditched the X-men and shrugging her shoulders as some of them suffer, has been trying to live a normal life at a fancy private school. Yet she still finds reasons to bitch and moan about it, which include still dealing with her mimic powers that led her to seeing one too many teenage boys naked. Fuck, hasn't this bitch discovered internet porn yet? But all she does here is piss and moan about how she's miserable when she's not getting shot at and how much she misses Cable. Cable knows this, but he keeps his distance from her as well he should. This bitch has caused him enough problems.
After checking in on Hope, he returns to his new base, which happens to be a shit hole junk yard in the middle of nowhere. It may sound like a questionable choice of residence, but when you come from an apocalyptic future I guess it's the closest you get to a Motel 6, minus the semen stains on the bed sheets. It also turns out he has a roommate in Forge. Now this is a little odd because Forge has been MIA in the X-books since the Ghost Box arc in Warren Ellis's Astonishing X-men. What the fuck has he been doing all this time and how the fuck did Cable get him to join his renegade team? We don't get an explanation unfortunately. But Cable does get a badass new cybernetic arm that shoots rockets. So it balances out.
While we don't get an explanation for how Forge ended up with Cable, we do get one for Domino and it's not just because she used to bone him (although that probably was a factor). Domino didn't seek him out or anything. She was just bored and was passing the time like she probably does on every Thursday night by going on a mission that involves infiltrating an AIM base armed with multiple layers of security, automatic sentry guns, and cybernetic dogs (not a metaphor). With her luck, it's amazing she doesn't get painfully bored by this shit. But her luck is even better this time because by the time she arrives, someone else has already done her work for her. Hope, having had shitty luck in finding Cable and being too much of a bitch to accept it, went ahead and finished Domino's mission in exchange for her help finding Cable. Since Domino would probably be too bored waiting for another life-threatening mission, she humors Hope's insufferable daddy issues.
While Domino helps Hope find Cable, he recruits another member for his team in Dr. Nemesis. Since Utopia is now defunct and the Jean Grey Institute already has an insufferable douche-bag scientist in Beast, he's out of a job. But as soon as he arrives at his junkyard base, he finds Hope there waiting for him. At first it looks like it's going to be an emotional reunion. It ends up being the kind of migraine inducing scene you won't see outside a Twilight movie. First, Hope just stands there all pissed and bratty, whining at Cable as to why the fuck he didn't come for her the moment he woke up. She's so pissed that she taps his telekinesis to kick up some shit. But all Cable has to do is give her that puppy dog look (or whatever the equivalent is for a guy as fucked up as him) and she forgives him. No explanation. No clues. He just says something incredibly bland and all is forgiven.
Now aside from this going against the utterly immutable laws of insane teenage emotional reactions, it basically avoids adding any more details as to just what the fuck has happened to Cable. The last time he was seen, he tried to kill the Avengers during X-Sanction and was completely healed from the techno-organic virus. Yet he clearly woke up and didn't see fit to help Hope out while the events of Avengers vs. X-men were ripping the world apart. You think a guy with foresight into the future would actually be useful, but fuck no! He just runs off and we don't know why. It's a very big blank and one that no awesome cybernetic arm can sufficiently overlook.
There is at least some hint as to how Cable ended up in need of new cybernetic limbs in the first place. After his reunion with Hope, he suffers a terrible headache (which is normal when dealing with Hope). However, these headaches are part of a new string of symptoms he's been dealing with since he was healed from the techno-organic virus. Dr. Nemesis and Forge try to help him, explaining that the process fucked with his internal wiring as if it wasn't fucked up enough to begin with. And in the process, it gave him brief visions of the future. And as they're assessing Cable's condition, one of those visions that Hope saw earlier manifests right on the TV screen. It's a somewhat random way to end the comic. Fuck, it doesn't even explain how the hell they ended up having to shoot Havok in the face and give the finger to the Avengers. Maybe I'm just too happy to see someone stick it to the Avengers after Avengers vs. X-men, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind an explanation for that shit. Sadly, we don't get it, leaving yet another glaring blank for this issue.
X-Force books have always had a certain gritty style to them that makes you want to drool and throw up at the same time (in a good way). For any X-Force book to be considered successful by any degree, it has to uphold that style for the same reason you don't tell Superman stories that involve Lois Lane being a crack whore. Well I can safely say with a semi-sober mind that this first issue of Cable and X-Force captures that style. From the tone to the artwork, this book definitely oozes with X-Force from all the right orifices. It involves renegade X-men doing the kind of renegade things that John Rambo, Chuck Norris, and John McClane do every other Friday. Dennis Hopeless established a clear theme for the book and overall, it's pretty damn awesome.
However, on a more detailed level this book has its share of flaws, the least of which involve a girl with red hair, green eyes, and ISN'T named Jean Grey. I won't say that Hope Summer taints every book she touches in the same way Joel Shoemacher tainted superhero movies to such an extent that it nearly destroyed the genre. She did make Generation Hope enjoyable at times. But this is one book where her presence really drags the story while fucking up what already happened in Avengers vs. X-men Consequences. I won't belabor how much Hope deserves to receive a long string of severe concussions delivered by Ray Lewis for completely ditching the X-men in Avengers vs. X-men and walking away when the very people that tried to protect her were screwed over and thrown in jail. I'll just focus on her constant whining, erratic characterization, and inability to be anything more than a Jean Grey ripoff that has since become useless.
But beyond Hope, the other major flaw of this book is the general lack of coherence in terms of what the fuck is going on and when the fuck it happens. Those are two very important aspects of any book. In the first pages, we see that Colossus is on the team and X-Force is in a situation that somehow warrants shooting Havok in the face. Now maybe I'm still pissed at Havok for being a douche in Uncanny Avengers #1, but that's pretty broad ass situation. It's clear this happens in the near future, but it isn't clear just how the fuck it gets there. In some ways that scene at the beginning is more appropriate at the end because most of the issue was about setting up X-Force as a team. And that didn't even go as smoothly as it should have. We didn't get too many hints about what Cable did when he woke up from his coma, how he convinced Forge to help him, and how he managed to set up shop in Nebraska without raising any eyebrows in a world where anyone with a Summers name has a target on their ass.
Some of these flaws can be corrected in future issues. Some, like Hope Summers, are lingering tumors that will continue to fester in this book for as long as Marvel cares to keep this outdated rip-off character breathing. But overall, the underlying premise of Cable and X-Force is well-established by Dennis Hopeless. It's just seriously lacking the details that would make it awesome. There's still time, but for this issue on its own I give it a 3 out of 5. I want it give it more just for that one panel that involved Havok getting shot in the face, but I refuse to be that petty to my readers. I may be a drunk, but I have standards. It'll give you a solid, gritty X-Force story, but with a shit ton of blanks that need to be filled in. In that sense it's like the Dark Knight Rises, but with Domino replacing Catwoman as the primary source of boners and Cable replacing Batman as the primary source of gritty brooding. So long as it doesn't involve Gary Oldman whining incessently, I'll take it! Nuff said.

X-men Supreme Issue 68: The Phoenix Saga Part 6 is LIVE!
It's finally here! The biggest moment in the history of the X-men
Supreme fanfiction series has arrived! I know I've labeled many moments
in X-men Supreme as big events, but this one is by far the biggest for
one reason: the Phoenix Saga. In the history of X-men and Marvel comics,
few stories have carried with them so much impact and so much emotion.
Chris Claremont created something truly special all those years ago and
it has been imagine and retold in many forms with the X-men in movies,
cartoons, and comics. As such, I wanted to retell it in a way that was
special and memorable for the X-men Supreme fanfiction series. There are
so many ways I could have gone and there are so many angles to cover
for the X-men, Jean Grey,
and the Phoenix Force. But I didn't want this saga to drag on for too
long. On this day, the Phoenix Saga ends. But the impact is just
beginning!
Issue 68: The Phoenix Saga Part 6
This fanfiction series has undergone many changes throughout its history. Characters have changed. Circumstances have changed. The whole X-men line-up has changed. But I can say without reservation that the Phoenix Saga will fundementally change the nature of the X-men Supreme fanfiction series. And I'm not just talking about Cyclops and Jean Grey either. The Phoenix Force will bring in an entirely new element to the X-men Supreme fanfiction series. That element will be explored in many stories to come. But those stories can't be told until X-men Supreme Volume 3: Ashes of Hope is completed. After the Phoenix Saga, there aren't many issues left. But with the end of this monumental event in the annuls of X-men Supreme, a whole new world of stories is set to emerge!
And in the spirit of the completion of the Phoenix Saga, I posted a new commission that I've been sitting on for well over a year because I knew it would be a huge part of the X-men Supreme Phoenix Saga. It depicts the final dramatic moment between Cyclops and Jean Grey at the end of Issue 68. It was a very special moment and the man who actually crafted the front page image on the X-men Supreme official website was the one behind this image. For that, I think Fabio of ComicConArt and as such, I've also posted the image in the X-men Supreme Official Panels section.
I've had an amazing time writing X-men Supreme, but I take a special bit of satisfaction in writing the X-men Supreme Phoenix Saga. After this final issue of the saga, I feel like I've covered all the necessary elements to make an X-men Phoenix Saga awesome. But I know at the end of the day it doesn't matter what I think as much as it matters how my readers think. So please take the time to post a review of the Phoenix Saga or of any previous issues. Or if you want you can contact me directly. I'm always open to feedback and I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone may have. So it's done. The X-men Supreme Phoenix Saga has ended and from the ashes a bold new world of X-men Supreme shall emerge! Until next time, take care and best wishes! Excelsior!
