Avengers Movie News: Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch Joining the Cast?

I know this isn't a site people go to for movie news. This is a site where people go to so they can see a semi-functioning drunk review comics. But every so often, some news comes along that I feel is worth reporting because it is either so big that it deserves to be reported on no matter how drunk I am or it's just so WTF that it must be brought up. This is the latter.

In case there was any doubt that writer/director Joss Whedon was referring to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch last week when he teased there’s “a brother-sister act” in The Avengers 2, we now have confirmation.

According to Entertainment Weekly, an unnamed source states the twin children of Magneto will indeed join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Marvel’s 2015 sequel. When the question was posed to studio President Kevin Feige, he would only say, “I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now.”

Of course, that does confirm Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch appear in Whedon’s first take on the script, which the writer acknowledged is “an evolution, and that goes on in editing,  it goes on all through shooting and it never stops. [...] You do come to a point where you all agree, OK … I’ve got these two characters — my two favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act, they’re in the movie, that’s exciting — you lock certain things in. But then, there’s a certain fluidity …”

Judging by Whedon’s enthusiasm, it seems likely Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be among those things locked in throughout the development process.

While Fox owns the film rights to the X-Men franchise, Feige indicated in April 2012 that, presumably because of the characters’ long histories with the Avengers — they joined the team within a year of their introduction as X-Men villains — Marvel could use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as well.

“It’s a little complicated,” he said, “but if they [Fox] want to use them in the X-Men movie they could, [but] if we want to use them in The Avengers movie, we could.”

The Avengers 2 opens May 1, 2015.

Make no mistake. Avengers 2 has the capacity to set a standard of awesome that would make the universe shit itself. Marvel Studios has a wealth of characters and history to draw from, even with many characters belonging to other studios (fuck you, Fox and Sony). Yet they're risking multiple orgasms from lawyers by bringing in Quicksilver and the fucking Scarlett Witch? Two characters who for the past decade are best known for fucking things up with the Avengers rather than helping them? And then there's the incest. By Odin's divine shit, the fucking incest.

The image this panel burns in your mind will never go away. EVER.
How the fuck did someone wake up one day at Marvel studios and say, "Gee, you know what would be awesome? Putting two characters with incestuous tendencies and a knack for fucking up reality in our biggest franchise!" Anyone who said that should have either been fired or drug tested.

Now I have nothing against Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch. I understand they have a history with the Avengers. But throwing them in a movie where lawyers make sure that the X-men (which Fox has the rights to) never dare touch Marvel's greedy hands just seems needlessly complicated when there are already a long list of Avengers characters to explore.

Is anyone out there really going to argue in a sober state of mind that Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch are bigger names than Miss Marvel, Black Panther, Wasp, Ant Man, or She-Hulk? There is way too much fucking material for Marvel to work with on a movie this big so they have no fucking excuse. Now don't get me wrong. I am going to be among those waiting in line to see Avengers 2, but it won't be for Quicksilver and the Scarlett fucking Witch. If decades down the line Marvel has sodomized enough lawyers to get the X-men rights back from Fox, I would fully support a bigger crossover. But not like this. Nuff said!

Marvel Infinite Comics Announcement - More is Awesome!

A week ago, Marvel cruelly teased fans again by giving them reasons to endlessly drone on the possibility of a New 52 style reboot. I imagine for some fanboys that's like getting an overdue boob job or putting down a dog. Now I pointed out how fucking retarded a reboot would be after the Marvel NOW! relaunch, but that didn't stop some from speculating endlessly when they saw this.

Well over the weekend while I was sleeping off a hangover, Marvel finally added some clarity while dashing the hopes of some fans who constantly bitch about the need for a reboot. But even they have to admit that the announcement was still pretty awesome. Avengers vs. X-men sucked the asshole of a constipated rhino, but it introduced something called Infinite Comics and those comics were pretty fucking awesome. In an era where people value their smart phone almost as much as they value their liver, it makes perfect sense to create comics that are perfectly adapted to the digital medium. Well now Marvel is taking that shit a step further! And this is how:

SXSW 2013: Marvel Infinite Comics

Today at the South By Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas, Marvel announced the addition of weekly Infinite Comics to their publishing slate. These comics treat mobile devices as a new canvas and that take advantage of the technological opportunities inherent in them. Fans have gotten a taste of this format before with the AVENGERS VS. X-MEN and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Infinite Comics, but this new initiative promises to push the burgeoning medium to new places.

“What we’re doing with Infinite Comics is developing a new language for telling comic book stories," says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “We’re getting more and more sophisticated as we move along. We see a progress with each venture, and an expanding of capabilities. The technology improves and allows us to do things that we weren’t able to do before."

Four leading Marvel characters will receive their own 13-part, weekly Infinite Comic story, totaling up to 52 weeks of new Infinite Comics, one released every Tuesday. WOLVERINE: JAPAN'S MOST WANTED kicks off the program, written by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, with art by Paco Diaz. The latest Wolverine epic begins on July 9, providing a perfect jumping on point for anyone who enjoys this summer's film, "Wolverine."

The Infinite Comic marks seminal Wolverine writer Jason Aaron's return to the character's solo adventures.

“The reason we’ll be involving the monthly writer of each of these comic book stories we’re going to be telling through Infinite is that they’re all part of continuity," explains Alonso. "You know it’s as relevant to that particular character as anything you’ll find on the comic book stands that Wednesday."

The subjects of the subsequent Infinite Comics series remain under wraps for now.
“It’s not that certain characters are better in print and others aren’t," explains Peter Phillips, the Senior Vice President & General Manager of Marvel’s Digital Media Group. "I think this is an alternative way of storytelling. This is always about using digital for continued innovation. We’re always trying to extend that conversation with and for our fans."

"We’re at the forefront of developing a new language for comics," continues Alonso. "If we go back to the way comics were told, it started with a horizontal strip of panels and evolved into a comic book page. [Then] you could go vertical or horizontal and page design was a part of the process. Now we’ve taken it to the tablet and the handheld media and you’re seeing how, even in a short year or so that we’ve been doing [Infinite Comics], how we’re evolving this and getting better."

Marvel's New #1 Teaser - What Could It Be?!

I'll accuse Marvel of a lot of crazy shit, but I'll never accuse their marketing and PR people as being lazy. It seems we can't go more than a few weeks without them teasing something that will tear the Marvel universe several new assholes. I've done posts on teasers before and usually they're just vague enough to get you scratching your head. But every now and then they do one that is so perplexing that if it were an anime it would induce lethal seizures. This is one of them and it is only summed up as a big ass #1.

Marvel Promises "HUGE Story" With "Marvel" #1 Teaser

So what the hell could it be? First off, let's state clearly what it is and that's another excuse for Marvel to slap a new #1 on a comic book. I've already pointed this out many times before and fans continue to roll their eyes for some reason whenever it's vindicated multiple times. Books with #1 on them sell and until they stop selling, Marvel and DC will continue to churn out books with this magical number that allows them to get more money without having to do any additional work. Speaking on behalf of stoners everywhere, I can say without hestiation that there is inherent worth to such tactics. The folks at Marvel need stripper and booze money too.

But beyond what we know, what the fuck could this #1 entail? It listed a wide range of Marvel characters, some major and some minor and some pissant little redhead that should be dead by now. Is this a new series or some new event spinning right out of Age of Ultron? It's hard to tell, but fuck if I'm not intrigued. I'm sure that's exactly how Marvel planned it. A big ass #1 is all it takes for us brainless consumers to get interested. I want to be ashamed, but I'm too intrigued to give a shit. Nuff said!

Rumor: Wolverine To Die In 2014?

I usually try to stay away from gossip in the same way I try to stay away from Mormon, Tea Party rallies, and AA meetings. But when a rumor comes along that's more outrageous than a priest being caught in a prostitution sting, I just have to report it. Earlier today, our friends at Bleeding Cool posted this little nugget.

The Death of Wolverine in 2014?

I understand that, spinning out of gossip from the Marvel Creative Summit this last week, that next year there is a plan at Marvel to kill Wolverine. In a way that gets round his healing factor and his seems supernatural deal to keep coming back from the grave.

That it may involve the effects of time travel on his body as a result of the Age Of Ultron upcoming series. And also the idea that, even given his reputation as a bloodthirsty killer, this time he may have gone too far…

This is currently just rumour and gossip, but Wolverine will be probably playing a time travel role in the X-Men Days Of Future Past film next year. Who knows, maybe it will have further implications?

In terms of dipshit ideas, this ranks right up there with anything in Rick Santorum's presidential campaign. Killing Wolverine? Marvel's most popular character and the major star of four X-men movies? Has Marvel really gotten that desperate? It's not enough to piss off Spider-Man fans by mind-fucking Peter Parker with the brain of Doc Ock, but are they really willing to piss off Wolverine fans and the women that want to bone him?

Moreover, this shit has been tried before and it hasn't translated into long-term success. Marvel foolishly killed Wolverine (and a fuckton of other characters) in Ultimate and replaced him with a hillbilly, de-aged rip-off. And according to the latest sales stats for January 2013, Ultimate X-men is selling worse than an issue of Wolverine MAX. Another good example is X-men Forever. Haven't read up on that series for a while? Well there's a good reason for that. Because it got fucking canceled! Chris Claremont killed off Wolverine in the first few issues of this series. After just a couple years, the series burned out worse than Vanilla Ice's rap career. Even if this shit is temporary, it's still a fucking stupid idea.

But perhaps I'm being too subtle. After all, they have plenty of reasons for doing something like this. Believe it or not, I get why Marvel likes to kill off big characters. It's not their fault. It's ours. It's us, the fans. For reasons that would make Aristotle himself blow his brains out, we still buy into this shit. We give Marvel our money. And if they find out tomorrow that fans will buy a couple stacks of paper with a dick on each page, they'll fucking do it and they'll keep doing it until it stops working. The sad truth is these tactics of killing big name characters still work. And we have nobody to blame but ourselves. So I guess I can't be mad at Marvel. I have to be mad at fans like myself. Fuck, that sucks. I need a drink. Nuff said!

CBR: Axel-In-Charge - My Question Asked!

Like most fanboys with too much free time and a drinking problem, I often like to throw random questions at Marvel, DC, and pretty much anyone who will listen and not assume I'm as psychotic as I sound. Most of the time, they don't get answered. To be fair, most of the time they involve questions about Emma Frost's boob size, Jean Grey's butt, Psylocke's legs, and Cyclops's penis (it's not gay if it's the same penis that parties in Emma Frost). But every so often, I will ask a serious question. And every so often, the fine folks at Marvel and sites like Comic Book Resources are generous enough to answer. While I may give them plenty of shit on this blog, they're still the kind of guys and gals I would gladly buy a round of beer and a few lines of blow.

Usually, not a lot of questions get asked in Axel Alonso's weekly Axel-In-Charge column. So when I ask a question, the odds of it getting asked are about the same as not getting kicked in the balls after pretending to be a door-to-door gynecologist at a sorority house. My question was a simple pry for more info on the upcoming Wolverine MAX line. I was going to ask if there was a chance that they would depict Wolverine's penis, but I decided to keep it tame. That and the weed wore off.

CBR: Axel-In-Charge

For fan questions this week, I thought we'd take things in a completely different direction by zeroing in on a corner of the Marvel U near and dear to you: the MAX line. First up MarvelMaster616 stopped by to ask, "First off, I want to say I'm a big fan of the MAX series and I'm glad that Wolverine is finally getting the MAX treatment. Can you tell us how long this series will run? What else can we expect from the MAX series in the future?"

Alonso: "Wolverine MAX" is a 5-issue limited series written by crime novelist Jason Starr and illustrated by Roland Boschi and Connor Willumsen, with covers by the incomparable Jock. I'm super-excited about this series and can't wait for you guys to read it.

He didn't reveal too much and I shouldn't expect him to. I'm sure if they did have plans for the MAX line and all the exposed nipples they offer, they wouldn't reveal it to a drunk with a blog. But just acknowledging my existence goes a long ways. In a world where the front page is dominated by stories of stuff that comes out of Snookie's vagina, that's the best we can hope for. Nuff said!

Marvel NOW! To Compete With DC's New 52 (Plus Jean Grey Update)

I normally don't post this much in the span of two days, but with so much comic news bombarding us like a fake tits at a porn convention there's just so much to report. Since the meth still hasn't worn off, I figured I would give another update courtesy of our fine friends at Entertainment Weekly. They've taken a break from reporting on Tom Cruise's latest divorce and the gay rumors that have inevitably followed to do some top notch reporting on Marvel comics.

Marvel's New Beginnings: Marvel NOW!

As I previously reported earlier, the Jean Grey tease that we all got may have been bullshit, but it did tie into Marvel's next big initiative for the post-Avengers vs. X-men world. They're calling it Marvel NOW!, but they might as well be calling it (Suck it, DC! We can do this shit too without dumping the continuity!). Marvel is calling it a relaunch, but it is NOT a reboot. The continuity, including shit like the Clone Saga and the Chuck Austin run on Uncanny X-men still stands. But they promise to relaunch multiple books over the course of several months, mixing and matching superhero teams so that the Avengers and the X-men effectively blend. It's a whole new superhero world complete with costume redesigns. Once again, it promises to put Marvel on the same level as DC in terms of relaunching titles into a new class of books. Details are light, but chances are Marvel is waiting until Comic Con where they can announce these details to a hoard of female cos-players dressed as Emma Frost.

Can't say I blame them.

And what about Jean Grey? While I did make my dismay over using time travel to bring her back painfully apparent (sue me, I was sober), Brian Bendis did offer this in the article:

And of course, the time-travel shenanigans at the center of All-New X-Men will bring fan-favorite character Jean Grey back to the mainstream comics continuity for the first time since her (second) death in 2004. “It’s the one thing X-Men fans have always asked for is: They want Jean Grey back. But they want Jean Grey. Not reincarnated Jean, or the ghost of Jean. Well, you’re getting Jean back. And Jean is gonna be looking at a world that rattles her.” And Bendis brings up an intriguing personal connection when he talks about writing the beloved character: “I love feisty redheads. I’ve been married for many years to a very feisty redhead. But I’ve never applied that to writing before. I didn’t even realize what I was doing, but Stuart Immonen is drawing the book, and looking at it I realized: ‘Ha ha, I’m doing my wife!’”

So could there be hope? For Jean Grey fans, probably not. But at least Marvel isn't ignoring it. I still plan on getting drunk and reviewing the shit that happens along the way so expect plenty of ranting in the meantime! If more details emerge, I'll be sure to blog them (again, if I'm sober). But before I go, I want to end this entry on a positive note so here are some hot Marvel women to celebrate this new beginning for Marvel comics.

New Phoenix Teaser for Marvel "It's Coming"

I know it's been a while since I've offered my colorful drunken input to recent Marvel news. In my defense the most exciting news Marvel has had since Fear Itself all relates to shit that won't happen until the summer of 2012. And I'm sorry, but I just can't think that far ahead. I can barely think back to last night when I woke up in some strange old woman's basement with a pair of dentures in my hand and what I hope was just a wig in the other. But since the New York Comic Con back in October, Marvel has been dropping hints like Herman Cain drops sexual harassment charges about what's going to happen in 2012. They even dedicated an entire, overpriced 48-page one-shot called Point One to act as what is essentially and overblown trailer to a Michael Bay movie. Among the many random and underdeveloped stories in that issue was yet another teaser for the Phoenix Force. Under normal circumstances, I would be jumping out of my skin and humping my couch in excitement over this news. But like one too many hits of crack, the high just isn't what it used to be.

Robot6: "It's Coming" Phoenix Teaser on Wednesday, December 7th

For those of you who haven't kept up, Marvel has been touting the Phoenix Force in their comics more than Brittney Spears touts her snatch. It goes all the way back to Phoenix Endsong in 2005, a time when you could still get a home loan for being able to walk and chew gum and when everyone still laughed at the notion of electing a black president. That story officially or unofficially, depending on who you ask, made the Phoenix Force active again. Since then, the Phoenix Force has showed up in countless references from Messiah Complex to Astonishing X-men to several issues of Generation Hope. This thing is officially the herpes of the X-books in that it keeps coming back and in a very annoying way.

Now don't get the wrong idea. I love Phoenix. I love Jean Grey. What I don't love is having both regularly teased as coming back into the fold only to have it turn out to be a complete fucking farce. Marvel has already gone out of it's way to essentially plagerize Jean's imagery in the creation of Hope Summers, the girl who actually flared the Phoenix back at the end of Second Coming. Every public statement they seem to make regarding Jean Grey essentially reinforces the notion that she's dead. Now could that be a tease? I used to think so, but given how much time and resources they put into making Hope Summers a replacement character and watering down Emma Frost to the point where she might as well be Jean Grey after extensive plastic surgery I honestly can't see it happening. I've brought it up in many reviews where Jean is cited. Marvel wants her imagery, but they don't want to bring her back. They want to have their cake and eat it too. That's like wanting to get piss faced drunk without getting a hangover. I'm sorry, but even in the skewwed physics of the comic book universe that just isn't possible.

Now I would love to be wrong this time. I would get down on my knees and lick Marvel's boots clean of dog shit if this time the story actually involved Phoenix and Jean Grey in a coherent way. But I'm not brushing my teeth just yet in anticipation. I'm a cynical, jaded fanboy in this department and I'm maintainin a strict "I'll believe it when I see it" approach. I'm not quite as extreme as those who deny global warming, but at the moment I'm within spitting distance of that crowd with regards to Marvel's handling of the Phoenix Force and Jean Grey. Again, I want to be proven wrong here. Come on, Marvel! You know you wanna! But until that happens, expect me to keep relating the Phoenix with herpes and Jean Grey with fond memories. Nuff said!

BREAKING COMIC NEWS: Marvel Relaunching Uncanny X-men (Not a joke)!

No, I'm not drunk. No, I'm not high (too much). This is a real news story that broke on Yahoo this morning. Marvel has announced that this October, Uncanny X-men will end at #544 and be relaunched. This comes just weeks after DC announced that it's relaunching it's entire line with 52 number ones. Now I'm a little rusty on my 12th grade calculus, but 52 against 1 sounds like Marvel is being a bit underhanded. That or they're just hoping to cash in on the whole relaunch fever bit. Whatever the case, it comes off as more of a gimmick than an initiative.

Yahoo News: Marvel's Uncanny X-men Ending in October

Now this isn't coming out of nowhere so it may not be a total gimmick. I've already written about the upcoming Schism event with Marvel. Well that's what prompts this whole relaunch in the first place. Apparently, the divide between Wolverine and Cyclops is so severe that it warrants ending one of the longest running Marvel titles in history. Uncanny X-men started back in 1963 when my parents were barely old enough to shit in toilets. Now they're retooling it like they did the adjectiveless X-men title last year (which quickly fell into mediocrity after the Curse of the Mutants arc). I'm not sure what to make of this. I'll need to get plastered to wrap my brain around it. But here's a snippet of what Nick Lowe said.

"In the last five years or so, the X-Men have been exploring a different angle. A catastrophe reduced the population to a couple of hundred mutants, and no new ones are being born," he said. "This fledgling species was looking at extinction - and the militarized forces of prejudice moved in for the kill."

Cyclops united the remaining Mutants, doing what neither Magneto nor Xavier, aka Professor X, was able to do.

"Everyone has basically gone along with Cyclops, no matter what reservations they had," he added, but now, those reservations are reaching the breaking point, which is the focus of "Schism" and sounding the death knell of the Uncanny X-Men.

Marvel Liveblog News: Nick Lowe Ends the Hope/Jean Controversy

Well it's finally happened. I've been ranting about it, bitching about it, and brooding about it ever since this blog started. The Hope/Jean issue has been a real sticking point if not a drag. That tends to happen when you drop so many hints and drag a plot out for years at a time. Well today the dragging stopped. We finally have an answer for the Hope/Jean controversy. The answer, in a word, is fucked.

It happened during Marvels live blog today that covered the upcoming events of Uncanny X-men and Generation Hope with Kieron Gillen. As everybody knows, I've been following those books closely on this blog. They've been a major source of tension for the Hope/Jean issue. Now they feel like a big waste of time because this was what CBR reported from the blog.

Fans online asking after Jean Grey prompted Lowe to say that despite seeing "the foggy specter of a redhead in the White Room" in recent issues, he has no idea why anyone would expect Jean in the book before saying "Hope is not Jean Grey...take that for what you will."

If you actually read the transcript of the from the Marvel he throws in another tidbit. "Jean Grey is dead." To further reinforce this point to assure fans that it wasn't ordinary bullshit, Marvel tweeted it minutes later. So there's no ambiguity or teasing here. It's a clear, straight answer.

So there you have it. Hope is not Jean Grey and Jean Grey is dead. Despite seeing hints of her in the pages of Uncanny, it all turned out to be bullshit. There's nothing more to it. Hope is just a ripoff of a character who looks like Jean and wields the Phoenix Force like Jean. That essentially renders her as one of the lamest creations Marvel has created since Geldoff in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Now this really burns me in a lot of ways. Nick Lowe has commented on Jean Grey before. He was very ambiguous on a past X-POSITION. In this he said: As far as Hope goes, there are certainly hints being laid about a certain firey bird-like shaped thing. We definitely have wheels in motion, but I can't give you a target date or anything like that.

That wasn't the only one either. In an even earlier X-POSITION he was asked about when the Hope/Jean/Phoenix issue would be resolved. He said the following:

That seems like something that would be addressed in Generation Hope to me.

He's not the only one who has commented on it. Before that there was a column by Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso on an X-men creative summit. I asked a question about Lowe's remarks about Jean's status.

Brevoort: The problem with wanting a definitive answer on a question such as this, Master616, is that the real answer is next month's comics, and the month after that, and the month after that. We'll be perfectly up front about the fact that, in cases like this, we're teasing you with something. But asking to know the identity of the killer before you read the murder mystery isn't productive, and knowing it won't enhance your reading experience, it will only lessen it. So relax - maybe there's a connection between Hope and Jean Grey, and maybe there isn't. The fun is in finding out!

Alonso: What Tom said. Also, two things:

(1) Everyone knows that Nick Lowe is a certified knucklehead.

(2) Remember, here at Marvel: Once dead, always dead. Right?
Wait.

So after all that teasing Nick Lowe finally settles it in one statement. It's all bullshit and it was just a big red herring that was drawn out over the course of three years. Now maybe I'm weird (who among us isn't?), but I don't like being bullshitted. I don't like it when I'm teased and taunted for over three years and then it all turns out to be a big lie. Worst of all, this came out in a fucking interview. It didn't happen in a story. It didn't happen on panel. The guy who happens to be the top editor of the X-books just dropped the ball and admitted it was all a lie.

Well as some of you can imagine, I'm a little pissed. I take a huge offense to shit like this. As much as I love X-men comics, I don't like being lied to about one of my favorite characters and having her replaced with some cheap rip-off in Hope Summers. This has essentially killed any appeal I once had for these books. Given how long I've been following them, that's saying a lot.

The immediate effect of this is my reviews from here on out are going to be a lot more bitter. I have a few I've been working on for this weekend, but only one is related to X-men so expect that one to be a bit nastier than usual. If you enjoy the poop jokes and what not, you'll be perfectly okay with it. But I really don't appreciate bullshit like this. I'm a loyal reader of Marvel comics and when I read a long, drawn out story that turns out to be a total farce I get really offended. I'm weird like that.

So to all you wonderful followers of this blog, I really appreciate your support. I apologize if I sound bitter, but I'll try not to let it affect my work on X-men Supreme or my reviews. I know I reported earlier I would cease reviews, but given how many people enjoy the reviews I simply can't in good conscious do so. Too many people seem to enjoy it and I'd hate to screw them over. I want to focus on making X-men Supreme better by not being a massive dick-cheese to fans. Hopefully Marvel will take note. Until next time, take care and best wishes my fellow knights of all things awesome. Excelsior!

CBR: Marvel T&A - My Question Answered

I know I've had my shit asked during CBR's little interviews before. I also know it's lame for a fanboy to keep getting all giddy every time his name gets mentioned or a question gets asked. But fuck it, I still get excited! Since Joe Quesada now has a new job as CCO at Marvel, his old Cup 'O Joe panels have been given over to Tom Breevort and Axel Alonso. They don't necessarily have the big bosses charm, but they're more playful and willing to entertain more questions. This past week I asked one inspired by the recent change in Wonder Woman's uniform. I swear it was like they showed her tit being exposed Janet Jackson style when they changed her uniform. I personally didn't mind it, but I understand for some how that can be like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa. With that in mind I asked a question about the appearance of characters in the Marvel Universe. I'm not a fashion guru or anything, but I recently watched the movie Bruno and my inner metrosexual felt compelled to ask.

CBR: Marvel T&A - Tom Breevort and Axel Alanso

On to fan questions! MarvelMaster616 went to the fashion side of the Marvel U with this query: "I know there have been a number of uniform changes over the years for the Avengers, the X-men, and Spider-Man. But it feels like the uniforms haven't changed much in quite a long time. Do you think the uniforms of some Marvel heroes are overdue for a makeover? I'm sure you saw how much buzz Wonder Woman's new look got. Why not try a little fashion overhaul in the Marvel Universe?"

Brevoort: That's funny, MarvelMaster, in that I look around the Marvel Universe and see very few mainstay characters who are sporting their classic looks. Practically the only characters still in their quintessential costumes are Spider-Man (who's got some new attire coming as part of "Big Time") and the Fantastic Four (whose outfits are similarly about to change - if only to replace those 4's with 3's…) But almost everybody else - Cyclops, Wolverine, Daredevil, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America (both Bucky and Steve Rogers), Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, etc, etc - is wearing something at least somewhat different these days. Unless you're looking for radically different uniforms for our mainstays, I feel like we're already there.

But what do I know? I haven't changed my look since 1982.

Alonso: Call me crazy, I'm curious to see what could be done with Ghost Rider's outfit. And as much as I love Deathlok's classic look, he's kinda like an 8-track tape in a digital world. His aesthetic is the product of the '70s imagination of the future - I'd like to see him reflect the future we imagine now. Also, I'd kind of like to see a new look for my son's second favorite character, War Machine. Our concept of what those two words - "war" and "machine" - has changed so much over the years. How might his look reflect that and how might he gain aesthetic difference from Iron Man.

Not a completely unserious response, but still decent. I understand some characters have changed more than others. But then there are those who really look the same as they did when my parents were still protoplasmic goo inside my grandparents. I'd like to see Ghost Rider get a new look. The 80s punk rock look wasn't even that badass in the 80s. Black Widow, Spider-Man, Wasp, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Woman, and a whole host of other characters haven't undergone much change. If so much buzz and hoopala can come about from Wonder Woman putting on pants, how can Marvel resist trying to do the same with their characters?
