All New X-men #1 - All New World of Awesome
It's finally here! It's been teased at, discussed, spoiled, and picked apart more than Barack Obama's birth certificate. But it's finally here. All New X-men #1, a new series meant to symbolize a new era of X-men comics while simultaneously shutting up angry Jean Grey fans, is here. Now why would I be reviewing this comic at this point? It can't just because I'm a stoned and I'm out of Cheetos. It can't be because I didn't do enough drunken commentary on all the previews that were leaked over the past month either. But perhaps a better question is do you, my fine readers, give a shit about my reasons for doing this review? Or do you just want to see me get drunk, post some pretty pictures, and tell you whether or not this comic is as awesome as we've been led to believe? I may not be psychic, but I did take a hit of LSD last night before I passed out so I'm pretty sure I know what you, my wonderful readers, want me to do.
All New X-men has been by far one of the most talked about X-books of the Marvel NOW! relaunch and for a very simple reason. I'll give you a hint. She has red hair, green eyes, and is NOT named Hope Summers. Way back when Avengers vs. X-men was still actually decent, Marvel revealed that they had finally gotten tired of jerking off to angry letters from Jean Grey fans demanding that she be brought back and that Hope Summers have her ass scoped by the Ultimate Nullifier. But instead of just doing the typical Phoenix resurrection (and let's face it, that shit has been done before and exploited more than Honey Boo Boo) Marvel wanted to get back to basics with Jean Grey. To hell with the whole I-can't-control-the-Phoenix or the I-can't-decide-if-I-would-rather-fuck-Wolverine-or-Cyclops stories! Let's just get back to the young Jean Grey that would eventually become the woman who fans would fall in love with and who Wolverine's penis will never get over.
The logic is admirable, but it also comes off as downright lazy. It's like some of the writers at Marvel whined, "But I don't wanna write about all the ramifications of Jean's history with the Phoenix or the guys she wants to bone! That's hard!" And eventually, the editors said, "Fuck it, we'll just do time travel." I'm pretty sure a deal with Mephisto was part of the original plan, but since that shit didn't go over well in Spider-Man they need to go with something that's only slightly less contrived. Now I have my share of problems with time travel. Ever since I saw Back to the Future and thought, "Why the fuck did Doc require his time machine run partially on gas?" I've had mixed feelings. But it still promises to bring Jean Grey and the whole Original Five into a world that Avengers vs. X-men fucked up in ways more extreme than German prison porn.
Now there are a lot of ways this series could go. This book also marks Brian Michael Bendis shifting gears from Avengers to the X-books. He's replacing a writer in Kieron Gillen who endeared himself to my fanboy heart in ways that would require I buy him 100 lap dances from 100 different Swedish supermodels. Gillen set the bar pretty high by taking Cyclops and the Extinction Team in a bold direction. And his style is quite different from Bendis, who basically wrote a superhero book that had a very different set of circumstances. His work on the Avengers was mixed. He was like the third Manning brother of Avengers comics and he's coming over to the X-men with a lot to work with. Can he succeed on the same level as Kieron Gillen? Well that depends entirely on whether or not he can make time travel slightly more palatable than a deal with Mephisto. Given that he now has Jean Grey to work with, that shouldn't be too much to ask.
All New X-men #1 gets things rolling by attempting to have Beast do something that doesn't make him come off as a complete douche-bag. It's not just a hard task. It's an impossible task. This was the asshole who basically gave the finger to Cyclops before he got drunk on Phoenix Force, claiming moral superiority because he never kept a secret. But wait...now he's keeping a secret himself? Thus making him a bigger hypocrite and a bigger douche-bag by default? If any part of this surprises anyone, go to a doctor immediately. You likely have a tumor in the reasoning portion of your brain.
But to his credit, this secret is more serious than merely claiming moral high ground against a guy who ended up being right all along. It turns out Beast is dying and not from being an asshole or a breeding ground for pubic lice. Having been fucked over by his mutation before, which turned him into the lovable overgrown cookie monster we know now, his mutation is fucking him over again and now he's dying. But rather than actually tell his friends so they can help him or at least give him some unbiased and non-douchy advice, he decides to keep it a secret so he has an excuse to do some insanely reckless shit. I'm pretty sure if hypocrisy was an overpriced hooker, Beast would be banging her until his dick fell off.
But enough about Beast and his feeble attempts to not be a douche. All New X-men is all about a bigger world where mutants are no longer dying off faster than Glenn Beck's credibility. Because Cyclops was right and the Avengers finally got out of their own fucking way, new mutants are emerging all over the world. To date, the X-books haven't really explored these new mutants. Well in this all new world, we get to meet our first lucky/unlucky genetic abomination!
Her name is Eva, an attractive young lady who likes to wear her skirt really high, enjoys partying in Australian night clubs, and has an overprotective brother who will beat the shit out of any guy whose dick so much as twitches in her presence. She and a friend are just for a night of casual decadence. Eva is hopping to secure the seminal fluids of a guy she's been eying, but then that overprotective brother I mentioned shows up to perform an impromptu castration. It causes the kind of scene you only find in a domestic dispute with Chris Brown, which ends in Eva's mutant powers activating. At first it's unclear what it does, but it effectively freezes everyone where they stand in a fancy light show that you only see at a planetarium on an acid trip.
She's understandably confused, but she quickly gets an explanation from Cyclops and his Extinction Team. Fresh out of jail, he reaches out to her along with Magneto and Emma Frost to explain that she's a mutant with time displacement abilities. Wait...back the fuck up. Emma Frost is now on the team? When the fuck did she suck enough dicks to get paroled? We saw in Avengers vs. X-men Consequences that Cyclops and Emma were in jail. But Cyclops broke out. It was a big moment at the end of the mini, but there was absolutely no indication that Emma Frost broke out or was freed. Maybe that shit happens in another book, but for some reason she's with Cyclops and Magneto and carrying on as if she didn't have to live without high heels and push-up bras for a while. Did I miss something or am I just more drunk than usual?
Unfortunately, I'm sober enough to pick this out and it is a pretty glaring flaw in the overly malleable comic book logic department. It may be a let's-not-and-say-we-did moment because all Emma Frost does is show that prison didn't do a way with her crass attitude as she explains to Eva that she's fucked up time in ways that would make her overprotective brother's head explode. She's created this odd bubble of displaced time that has frozen everyone in place. From the outside, 20 hours have passed and the police are pissed because at some point I guess Australia made it a law to fuck with the space-time continuum. But they reach out to her and offer help. Cyclops actually comes off as pretty sincere her in saying he's fucked a lot of shit up and wants to atone for it. Moreover, he wants to help Eva fix what she's fucked up. It doesn't take much convincing when her little time bubble breaks and she's got a lot of angry men pointing guns at her head.
This incident leads to a very public spectacle on the scale of three Kardashian sex tapes where Cyclops, Magneto, and mysteriously paroled Emma Frost beat up the authorities to protect Eva. They don't try to be diplomatic about it either. They just start beating the shit out of authorities and smile for the cameras. And other less violent X-men such as Storm, Iceman, and Kitty Pryde have a problem with that. Wait...didn't Storm also beat the shit out of her husband in Avenges vs. X-men? Okay, bad example. But none-the-less, they do see the broadcast and they are understandably upset that Cyclops has taken on much more aggressive tactics. They call him a mutant revolutionary and for Iceman, who has known Cyclops for a long time, that shit hurts.
But Cyclops and his Extinction Team aren't done making public spectacles that make the anti-mutant crowd shit their pants. We meet another new mutant, Christopher, who has a far less destructive power. He can heal people just by touching them, like a cross between Elixir and Barack Obama. I'll give Opera a moment to stop swooning. But for reasons that I can only attribute to the horribly inept and underfunded police force at Ann Arbor Michigan, they arrested him. He just explained that he healed someone and they treat him as a criminal. Because apparently that shit was cook back during Jesus's time, but not in a world where pharmaceutical companies spend billions blowing politicians. Cyclops and his team make a very destructive entrance yet again and save Christopher from being forced to spend his days healing bloody assholes in jail.
But in addition to the rescue, there's also a very powerful moment where Cyclops stares down a camera and essentially gives a new version of the finger to the world. We saw this in one of the spoiled previews, but now we have a Mel Gibson style speech to go along with it. He essentially tells mutants to not like humanity fuck with them. He calls his new team X-men and not some evil mutant liberator type crap. He just wants to make sure mutants enjoy the same freedoms as humans, even if that means roughing up a few humans. I'm not sure how much sense that makes, but it clearly establishes Cyclops's new position in Marvel NOW!
Needless to say, his former teammates at the Jean Grey Institute have a big problem with Cyclops's position, particularly the whole roughing-up-humanity part. They're all just appalled that Cyclops would be so militant after they let the Avengers throw his ass in jail. Because people who go to jail NEVER come out more violent, do they? Well whatever the case, they mull over how to deal with this. If they fight Cyclops, it's just another heroes vs. heroes battle and we already saw how much that shit sucks with Avengers vs. X-men. If they do nothing, Cyclops is free to piss off humanity as much as he wants and given how good he is at that it's only a matter of time before every last human is on their knees and sucking the dicks of anyone who has enough killer robots to stop them. It's here where Iceman makes the ominous remark that Cyclops's younger self would hate what he's become. Beast, who is still dying and still a douche-bag, hears this and gets an idea in that twisted mind of is.
We go back to the past and catch up with the Original Five before the bullshit surrounding Avengers vs. X-men, the Phoenix, and Cyclops being a revolutionary asshole. But apparently it wasn't before Beast was such an asshole because he essentially yells at Cyclops while he's writing a love letter to Jean Grey, complaining that humans are assholes and he's sick of pretending they'll stop being assholes. He basically sounds like the kind of guy that future Cyclops would have a beer with. I'm not sure if this is ironic, pathetic, or an ominous sign of things to come. But it establishes that one moment where the Original Five X-men are early in their superhero career, but have enough experience to understand that humans can be remarkably huge assholes.
It's just as Hank is about to give Cyclops the finger and storm off (where have we seen that shit before?) when they get a visit from future Beast. But wait...back up again! First Emma Frost is paroled and now Beast has a time machine? When the fuck did that happen? I had to smoke a few joints and re-read the previous pages. But there's no indication that Beast had a time machine nor decided that this specific point in time was the best place to go rather than something a big more recent (Jean Grey dying a second time and Wanda going crazy might have been more productive). Yet somehow he's able to show up at this moment in the X-men's history and keep the space time continuum intact? Fuck, if he was in Australia like Eva, the police would have a standing kill order on his ass.
The details behind the time travel are flat out ignored, but the outcome is essentially what it needs to be. It has Beast telling the original X-men that the future is fucked and they need to come with him to unfuck it. He says Cyclops is about to commit mutant genocide, yet I checked a dictionary recently. And there's nothing in the definition of genocide that involves saving innocent mutants from being arrested and attacking the assholes who like to fuck with mutants for no reason. Maybe Beast's illness has caused him to forget the definition of certain words. I hate to think that he may now think that peace involves taking a shit. But it sets the stage for the Original Five to return to the future and for the space time continuum to become more fucked up in the most awesome of ways.
So in the grand scheme of things, what can we say is "All New" about All New X-men? The issue is basically a new beginning for the X-men in the sense that it's a new status quo. It establishes Cyclops as a mutant revolutionary and the Jean Grey Institute thumb-up-our-asses pacifists. It's definitely not something that's been done before. But is it really that new? X-men vs. mutant revolutionaries? I say fuck no. It's just a more reasonable and less buzz-worthy concept than X-men vs. Avengers. Both sides have a point, but unlike Avengers vs. X-men that point actually makes sense.
After Avengers vs. X-men sucked donkey cock, I've developed a new appreciation for comics and stories in general that make sense. And in a purely thematic sense, All New X-men #1 makes perfect sense. Bendis establishes the two opposing sides and explains what they have to work with. What's lacking, however, is the finer details. And they're not trivial details either. Like how the fuck did Emma Frost break out of jail? And how the fuck did Beast get his hands on a time machine? Moreover, why the fuck would he pick this one part of X-men history instead the many others? Like maybe going back to that point when Wanda Maximoff lost her fucking mind and committed the genocide that drove Cyclops to his current actions anyhow? I'm not sure Bendis is even going to try and explain that shit. That's not to say there's a logic towards seeking out the Original Five to talk some sense into Cyclops. But unless he had few options, that would be like flying to Bankok for a happy ending massage despite having a neighbor across the street who will give a guy a blowjob for a free beer.
There were a lot of elements missing from this issue. They may be explained in other issues, but for this one in particular it seemed to be getting ahead of itself. It's like putting a condom on your dick before your hard. It doesn't exactly function the way you want. However, Bendis made great use of the elements he did focus on. This issue more than anything established Cyclops's new mission while taking an in depth view at the new mutants that are emerging throughout the world. Two of them already have names, Christopher and Eva. They each had their powers manifest in ways that got them into trouble and they each had to be saved by the X-men. It's a very old yet classic type of X-men storytelling. In that sense it's hardly new, but Bendis finds a way to make it compelling and awesome.
All New X-men #1 is one of the most hyped up books in the Marvel NOW! relaunch. It promises to do so much and it succeeds to a degree. It brings the Original Five into the picture, albeit at the tend, and establishes a new struggle for the X-men in the post-Avengers vs. X-men world. Seeing new mutants and exploring this new Cyclops is like that first hit of crack in that it makes your teeth itch and you start trembling for more. Okay, so the teeth itching is probably just me, but you get the idea. However, the abundance of blanks and the lack of details with which to fill them keep this book from feeling complete. So I give All New X-men #1 a 3.5 out of 5. It's a new battle and Jean Grey is actually going to be part of it. It's an exciting time to be an X-man fan. The way Bendis is setting everything up, you'll either have multiple orgasms or your soul will be crushed. Both my dick and my soul are ready so with that in mind, out with the old and in with the All New! Nuff said!

MORE Previews of All New X-men #1 and Beyond
At this point, keeping up with all of the previews and teasers for the upcoming All New X-men series is like trying to keep up with Charlie Sheen on a cocaine bender. It's damn near impossible and somewhere along the way some hookers may end up permanently scarred. But you don't have to keep up with all the teasers, hints, spoilers, and hype Marvel is throwing behind this new series to be excited about it. Just seeing the Original Five X-men back in the present and imagining how awkward it will be for Wolverine when he has to keep it in his pants around a teenage Jean Grey makes this series more than worth knocking yourself out with heroin so you don't have to wait as long. But this past week, Marvel has gone into greater detail about what to expect with this series as if they haven't done enough to divulge the entire first issue. They did an entire liveblog about it in which Brian Michael Bendis and Nick Lowe couldn't stop soaking their panties at the prospect of writing Jean Grey again. To be fair, I've yet to walk out of a situation that involves talking about All New X-men where my panties haven't been soaked as well.
CBR: Bendis & Lowe Introduce All New X-men
There is so much potential for a series like this. It doesn't just bring Jean Grey back into the fold. It essentially takes what made Back to the Future awesome and applies to the X-men, minus the incest. It also has the potential to get back to the basics with the X-men. Since House of M, they've been less about heroics and more about being this mutant militia fighting for survival. Now I'm not going to deny that shit is pretty awesome and has made for some damn good stories, but it gets old after a while. There's only so many ways you can make a superhero team look like badasses before they become douche-bags.
And if time travel wasn't enough, Bendis and Lowe also promise a few hints beyond the overly spoiled All New X-men #1. Like who will be in a position to fuck with the Original Five more than Wolverine will fuck with Jean Grey's underwear? How about motherfucking Mystique!
Bendis also revealed who the major villain of the piece will be. "A very big, positioned antagonist is going to be Mystique," Bendis said. "She's going to be very interested in the past X-Men coming here."
So not only is one famous redhead coming back. Another is entering the picture again. Apparently, she's going to get tired of fucking Sabretooth in the pages of Uncanny X-Force and need to fuck with someone else. Given that Mystique was one of the first comic book women I've ever jerked off to, this is a wonderful revelation and I will buy Bendis a full brick of cocaine if he can make it sufficiently awesome.
He also says there are plans for the Original Five to cross paths with Hope "Jean rip-off" Summers.
There are also huge plans for Hope Summers -- Lowe referenced "Cable and X-Force," but Bendis said there might be some interaction with Jean Grey and Hope later down the line.
I've already gone into many rants about how this bitchy ripoff character needs to die a 1,000 deaths and her grave be shat upon by a 1,000 fat men with irritable bowel syndrome. So I won't go into another and just say I hope Original Five Jean Grey is prepared to telekinetically bitch slap this pathetic excuse for a mutant messiah.
There's so much to look forward to. I've already made plans for when this series is finally released and Marvel stops spoiling the first issue. I've got a bottle of lube, a few bags of blow, some candles, and a new bong. I intend to lay naked on my bed, covered in baby oil while I read the book with my Grateful Dead collection playing in the background. My balls are already wet so November 7th can't come fast enough! In the meantime, here is some of the preview art that Marvel released for All New X-men #1 and beyond.
Not sure if Kitty and Iceman are doing something important or are just trying to enjoy a little thrill sex before the Original Five hogs the spotlight. Might be a little of both.
This image was already released months ago, but this time it's in motherfucking color! I was tripping on shrooms when I saw the first preview so I didn't notice.
Wolverine has clearly detected the scent of a live Jean Grey. His penis is taking it from there!
The Original Five confront Adult Cyclops, Magneto, and a lot of visibly confused people who probably think their drinks were spiked. Whereas Wolverine's penis will probably fuck with him upon seeing Jean Grey again, I imagine many other body parts will be fucking with Cyclops when he sees his dead wife as a teenager again.
Not sure what's going on here, but I think the reason they're focusing on their heads is because they may be in the process of shitting themselves.
Once again, teenage Jean Grey is overwhelmed and teenage Cyclops tries to help her. Is it cliched? Yes. Is it still awesome? Fuck yes.
Looks like someone got way too fucking wasted last night. It looks like me after my 21st birthday. A vision of the past or a prelude of what will happen on my next trip to Tijuana? We'll have to wait and see! Nuff said!

MORE All New X-men #1 Preview Pages (And Cyclops Kicking Ass)
Just when I think Marvel has done enough to spoil a comic, they find new ways to get away with it. It's not enough that they like to leak spoilers for big issues to mainstream media the day before the issue hits. On some levels I applaud their foresight because someone at that company is smart enough to tell his boss, "Fuck it. This shit will be all over the internet anyways. Why not exploit the living hell out of it?" Well like that hooker I picked up at an S&M club last week, I say exploit me motherfuckers!
I've done a series of blog posts recently on the various pages of All New X-men #1 that Marvel has spoon fed the web. The first time was basically a glorified teaser, which is not too outrageous for a comic company to do. The second time took it a step further, spoiling the whole fucking ending. You would think by now that All New X-men #1 is more spoiled than a tun sandwich left in a locked car for three days in Phoenix, Arizona. Well what's a little food poisoning and violent diarrhea at this point? This past week, Marvel has spoiled yet more panels that spoil way more than the ending.
The biggest revelation, which is probably the least surprising revelation since Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to banging Bridget Nielson when it was still something to brag about, is that Cyclops apparently got paroled from prison. And Emma Frost also managed to suck enough dicks to get pardoned. So they're free, they're hanging out with Magneto, and making it clear that the Avengers and the X-men that joined them can go fuck themselves.
And if the message wasn't clear enough, Cyclops gives them the finger in a very creative X-men style way.
It may be a cheap spoiler, but it is a major spoiler in the sense that we know how the shit unfolding in Avengers vs. X-men Consequences ends. Cyclops doesn't just break out of jail. He jumps right back into action and doesn't give a sliver of a fuck that he's still a fugitive. It's the kind of badass usually reserved for Wolverine, but Wolverine's badassery has been since replaced by douche-baggery as was so eloquently described in Avengers vs. X-men Consequences #2. So not only was Cyclops right, but he's also brazen enough to bust out of jail and continue fucking with the Avengers. Excuse me. I just teared up a little.
But as nice as it is to see Cyclops and what's left of the Extinction Team kicking around, it does raise some additional and possibly distressing questions. Namely, what the fuck is Cyclops doing that has the rest of the X-men thinking his younger self would be so disgusted? In the previews, it looks like he's saving mutants and/or throwing himself into anti-mutant rights to bust some heads. How is that shit against anything Xavier taught him? Is it because he's doing it with Magneto, a former stripper, and a teenage girl who was possessed by a demon? Fuck, why would anyone be disgusted by that. Hell, that just shows a commitment to teaching former villains to kick ass!
Another issue that hasn't been addressed is the Cyclops/Emma relationship. I've bitched about it a lot on this blog and made no bones about it. After the events of Avengers vs. X-men, these two should at the very least should take a break from making pornos. When Emma tried to convince Cyclops to burn the world to a crisp and when Cyclops ditched Emma to find Hope, that's shit that even Dr. Phil would say is unhealthy. Now Marvel has yet to clear up whether their relationship is over or if they're just going to sweep everything under the rug like they always do so they can keep pretending that these two somehow share a love that's deeper than your typical porno. But if these two are still together after the sheer recklessness with which they've handled them lately, it'll only prove that the writers at Marvel have stopped giving a damn.
I'm trying to be optimistic. Seeing Cyclops out of jail and giving the finger to the Marvel universe that screwed him over is more than enough to warrant buying multiple copies of this comic. We already know the Original Five are going to clash with their modern counterparts. This just promises to make that clash all the more awesome. Nuff said!

All New X-men #1 Minor/Major Spoilers
Last year it was reported that a few scientists with way too much free time on their hands studied the effects of spoilers on movies and books. Much to the surprise of fanboys who love to bitch and moan on message boards, it was discovered that spoilers didn't ruin the story and may in fact actually enhance enjoyment. I believe they likened it to revealing to someone that they were going to fuck a supermodel. This revelation did nothing to spoil the experience. It only makes people more excited. I'm not sure if those were the researchers' exact words, but I would be shocked if it wasn't much different.
I say this because Marvel appears to have read that study. Or at least Brian Michael Bendis has because recently, he leaked some very spoileriffic scans of All New X-men #1, which isn't slated for release until November. It wasn't the result of the fine folks at 4chan hacking the scans out of Marvel's secret database, which is probably located in a lair the Red Skull would kill for. It was as intentional as me getting drunk at a kegger. I've already done a few posts on panels that have been purposefully leaked. So I might as well share them with the fine folks that enable my drinking problems. But be forewarned that the scans are somewhat low quality. I couldn't find better ones so don't get pissed at me. There's only so much a drunk with a blog can do.
First scan with O5 Beast being a douche-bag.
Second scan with O5 Beast being an even bigger douchebag.
Third scan with modern Beast being a douchebag. Anybody else noticing a trend?
Fourth scan of Beast revealing to O5 Cyclops that his future self will be the kind of raging douchebag that will incur mass genocide against mutants. That or Beast is just trying to be an even bigger douche. It's hard to tell.
So even though I intended to get drunk and review this issue when it came out, we already know how the final page ends. There will be no shocks. No surprises. No assholes ripping the brains out of skulls and holding them up as if they came from Mila Kunnis's snatch. It just sets the stage for the Original Five X-men to return to the present. Their reason for doing so is simple. Cyclops won't listen to anyone who doesn't have DDD cup breasts and isn't named Emma Frost. So maybe he'll listen to his younger self. It's not groundbreaking, nor is it mindblowing. But fuck, it's still awesome.
It still leaves a number of unanswered questions. Like why the fuck does Beast think Cyclops is going to cause mass genocide? Does he do it from prison or does he bust out and decide the world is shit for not embracing the chance at a worldwide utopia? Or is this just another case of Beast and everyone else in the Marvel universe thinking that Cyclops is a douche-bag for trying to actually make the world a better place with his powers. It's hard to tell and chances are it'll give me plenty of things to rant about after a night of heavy drinking. I'm looking forward to it and I hope rest of my fine readers are as well! Nuff said!
Nuff said!

All New X-men #1 Preview: More Promise and More Bullshit
A while back, I did a post on some previews for All New X-men #1 that had been recently released by Marvel. Not content to merely offer fans a whiff of the shit they have planned, a few more panels have been released. I meant to post them sooner, but I wasn't sure how much more Marvel was going to post. That and I may have gotten drunk again. Okay, so maybe one was more a factor than the other. But the fine folks at Newsarma have compiled all the images released thus far and the scripts. I'll leave it to my wonderful readers how much it soaks their panties.

But a fight like this will end in half the mutants dead and half the world hating us.
All we’ve been doing here will have been for nothing.

All New X-men #1 Preview: Promise and Bullshit
Because I'm drunk and I'll probably end up writing about this topic in many a drunken rants, I might as well post some news and updates on this topic. I'm talking about All New X-men #1. I've already done posts on the covers that were recently released. Now Marvel has been releasing a few pages of All New X-men #1 along with some script. Is it going to make you shit your pants? Probably not. But it poses some interesting questions for which fans on message boards will bitch about.

So the X-men think Cyclops's younger self would be appalled that he tried to create a worldwide utopia and was constantly attacked until he went crazy. Really? And Beast is mutating yet again. Really? I'm cynical yet intrigued. Avengers vs. X-men can't end fast enough.

Fan Expo: ANOTHER All New X-men Cover Mystery
It goes without saying that Marvel loves to tease the shit out of their fans when a new series comes along that they know will make a fuckton of money and inspire a fuckton of variants. It also goes without saying that the motivation for this teasing isn't entirely predicated on just watching fans react and laughing their asses off behind the scenes while they plan to snort imported caviar off the ass of a teenage stripper. Keyword entirely. I've cited numerous instances on this blog where a cover turned out to be a complete ruse. Remember this shit?
But sometimes a cover sparks an outcry without being a ruse if you can believe that. Sometimes the cover partly spoils the end of a big event. Other times it creates another mystery that has fans scratching their heads with intrigue and frustration. When that scratching starts chipping away at the skull, then Marvel knows they're onto something.
That brings me to All New X-men #1. I've already made two blog posts on this cover since Marvel started leaking them. One was just to admire the sight of Jean Grey and the Original Five gracing the cover of an actual 616 book again. The other added a new wrinkle to the teasing in the same way that a prostate massage adds a new wrinkle to a happy ending at a massage parlor. I won't review all the twisted conspiracy theories that the Rachel Grey look-a-like on that cover has incurred, mostly because I don't want to overshadow the 9/11 truthers or the birthers. But I will gladly spark a new round of conspiracy theories just because I think the sober world is too damn boring and needs something to mix some shit into the pot of awesome.
At this past week's Fan Expo, there was more teasing than Tijuana topless bar. Most of it was pretty standard, but then Marvel saw fit to reveal yet another All New X-men cover. This one may or may not have spoiled the outcome of AvX and sparked yet another conspiracy theory.
Let's start with the obvious. If this cover isn't bullshit, it basically reveals that all those teases about Cyclops and Emma fighting in AvX were bullshit yet again. Since they're standing to close and on the same team, they clearly haven't broken up or anything. So all that fighting in AvX is probably going to amount to jack shit yet again. I've ranted about it so many times before. Cyclops and Emma have become the same sacred cow that Marvel often criticized when Cyclops was with Jean Grey. They won't do dick about jack about squat with this relationship. They're not romantic. They're not affectionate. They're just a few witty remarks and bed scenes. Again, how is that any different than a fucking Two and a Half Men rerun? If these two are supposed to be the X-men's most passionate couple, why do they have the depth of a fucking porno while Northstar and Kyle get more emotional in one fucking issue before getting married? I seriously don't know what the fuck Marvel is doing with these two anymore. Are they just together because they want to see two attractive people fuck? Maybe they haven't heard, but there's this thing called the internet and most comic readers are smart enough to download a billion pictures of attractive people fucking onto their smart phones.
Since Namor isn't even in the picture, that pretty much reveals that he's not going to be in the X-books anymore and therefore he won't be causing any tension between Cyclops and Emma anymore. Hell, he was the only source of tension between these two and even that wasn't much to begin with. Now with a young Jean Grey coming back, there seems to be absolutely no room for drama. If Cyclops is still just bedding Emma, there's really not much room for Cyclops to do much other than say "Fuck, there's the teenage girl I used to bone. Oh well. I've got someone else now."
But I digress. My outrage with the Cyclops/Emma relationship is probably better explored once Marvel once again does jack shit with it in AvX. The other part of the promo that will probably get many a panties into many a nots is that odd looking guy next to Emma. Unlike the Rachel Grey look-a-like, there's not much of a hint as to who he is. He doesn't have red hair and green eyes so that really narrows it down. But for some reason, he's in the background and not a single clue has been given. That means human nature must by default create some wild conspiracy theory to fill the void because waiting for the explanation is for pussies.
I have my theory. I believe that character is a young Bishop. He's been MIA since before Second Coming. Marvel could have killed him beforehand, but they didn't. Instead, they left him in the future. And since Cable came back in X-Sanction, Bishop has no excuse. We already know that All New X-men will involve time travel and that is sort of Bishop's thing. So why not? Or maybe a better question is if that is him, why the hell does he look like he should be working as a cashier at Wal Mart? Whatever the case, it's clearly linked because this cover links up with the others.
I'm sure Marvel will tease the shit out of this moving forward. Just as I'm sure I'll have plenty more to rant about regarding Marvel's shitty handling of the Cyclops/Emma relationship. But so long as they keep fucking with fans and I have a steady supply of booze, that means I'll have plenty to write about on this blog! Nuff said.

All New X-men #1 Cover Update - Mystery of the (non-Jean) Redhead
A while back a did a quick post on the recent release of the cover for All New X-men #1. There wasn't much to say about it. Okay, I may have been a little high and there's only so much shit we can derive from a cover, but it was definitely newsworthy because it offered a brief glimpse into the return of the Original Five. In addition, it was the first cover with Jean Grey that we can at least be somewhat sure isn't a fucking cock tease.
While my dick did thank Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen, there has been a new twist to this story. A few days later, Marvel released a variant cover for All New X-men #1. It wasn't too surprising. In the original article it already hinted at this cover might be one of those comic jigsaw puzzles that fit together with other comics to make some big uber cover that later becomes a poster that fans like me put in the corner of their room so as not to obstruct the playboy pinups. I didn't do another blog post because it seemed pretty innocuous.
It's a pretty basic team. It's the X-men's heavy hitters in Wolverine, Storm, Kitty Pryde, Iceman, Beast, and Rachel Grey. For a book like All New X-men where Brian Michael Bendis said outright that the Original Five would be interacting heavily with X-men's regulars it's to be expected. But then a few days later, Bendis threw in a twist that adds another piece to a puzzle that should be pretty basic.
See that redhead in the corner? The one that most normal, sober people would say is Rachel Grey sporting a mini-skirt that's a few inches too high? That's NOT Rachel Grey. Bendis actually confirmed this on his message board. That's not to say Rachel Grey isn't a major player. It's already been revealed that she's going to survive Avengers vs. X-men and remain a major player at the Jean Grey Institute. However, that girl on the cover isn't her.
Now when I heard this, my first logical conclusion was to assume I either had too much to drink or not enough. Once I ruled that possibility out, the synapses in my brain started working overtime. Who the fuck could that be? Some speculated it's Jessica Jones or Tabitha Smith. But Bendis has already said that's not the case. But how many other redheads associated with the X-men that dress in mini-skirts are there?
We don't know yet because Marvel isn't spilling the details this soon no matter how drunk the fans get or how fucked up their theories may be. But right now, the brain cells I haven't managed to kill have concluded that this may be a new version of Hope Summers. I've made my utter hatred of this character clear before. I'll go on record as saying that if she dies in Avengers vs. X-men, I'll be the first one to take a shit on her grave. But there's also a chance that old Jean rip-off may undergo a transformation in the final act of Avengers vs. X-men. There's an even more remote chance that the transformation will make her a character you don'[t feel the urge to punch in the face. But I learned long ago not to get my hopes up for shit like that. For all I know, this could be someone else entirely. Hell, maybe Emma Frost lost AvX and now has to walk around as a redhead as punishment. Or maybe Kid Omega had a sex change. In comics, pretty much all options are on the table.
So I'm opening up this den of drunken comic book fans to crazy theories and wild accusations. Who is this mysterious redhead and what are the chances she's somewhat less annoying than Hope Summers? Bendis has fans by the balls at the moment and it's only a matter of time before he starts squeezing. So why don't we all save our balls and our future children the trouble and figure it out before infertility sets in? Nuff said!

All New X-men #1 Cover - The Original Five are Back and PISSED
I know it's been a while since I posted something on the upcoming Marvel NOW! relaunch and/or ranted about it, but this is something I just had to post while I was sober. We already know that Marvel finally got the word that Hell froze over and are bringing Jean Grey back in some capacity in the 616 universe. Granted, it involves fucking time travel, but it still beats the hell out of some shitty replacement character who shall go unnamed. Brian Michael Bendis is shifting his focus away from the Avengers and taking on the X-men. He's already sounded more giddy than pervert in a panty factory so for that I salute him. But yesterday, we got out first actual teaser of All New X-men in the form of a cover. It's the first time Jean Grey has appeared on a cover without it being a complete ruse. I feel like this shit deserves a parade or something, but I'm content to just use it as another excuse to get drunk. You can never have too many of those!
It looks awesome and nostalgic in a way that doesn't make me yearn for the days when you could take a piss on a dumpster without it going on youtube and when cocaine wasn't so damn expensive. But moreover, the O5 look PISSED! I can already read the reactions. Beast says, "I'm a fucking cat?!" Angel says, "I'm a fucking hippie with amnesia?!" Scott says, "I'm a raging emo douche-bag that marries clones and forms kill squads?!" Jean Grey says, "I'm fucking dead?!" Bobby says, "I banged Mystique and might actually have a chance at banging Kitty Pryde?! Actually...I'm pretty good." Okay, so maybe Iceman needs a little work. I'm sure Bendis will get to that, but overall the Original Five are going to have a lot to be angry about. I've got some imported vodka on the way and plan on getting especially plastered for this issue! Stay tuned for more details as the booze wears off and the teasers keep coming. Nuff said!
